A five-kilometre wide asteroid is zipping past Earth this week, giving stargazers a show and doomsayers a bit of a scare.

Amazing-resolution image ! ...cannot currently send a star to Michael ...

> hazardous
... errr moderately to hardly so:
With Earth a sighting-disk with "10" for center, "1" outmost, this was a minus 1083 score.

Wow! Was this the one and it missed just by good luck?? Article said there have been some that were closer. They had better get going on those astro busting ideas we see in the movies.

Noted. Thanks, Michael. I watched a TV news report that stated this asteroid came between Earth and the moon. This article stated it was much further out. So, I'm a bit confused.

@Lois Jordan,

I believe the report you saw was about a much smaller asteroid that was only detected about two days before it passed the Earth. It did pass much closer than the one mentioned in this article. Apparently that one was about the size of the one that blew up over Siberia in 1908 and flattened trees for thousands of square miles.

Yes--thanks, Michael. That clears it up for me. So, there were 2. Doubly interesting!
