PLEASE contact your representatives and Senators about this! This is being pushed by the drug companies.. No more ORGANIC food - pesticides required! Insecticides KILL OUR IMMUNE SYSTEMS, ALLOWING us to be sick more often.. Take Action!

No question about it. Insecticides, pesticides and defoliants can cause normally healthy people to become gravely ill by adversely affecting not only their immune systems, but also their respiratory systems. Especially those families living in close proximity to farmland "crop-dusting".

The actual bill itself, in its entirety, is located at:

http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h875/text

It's a fairly long read and I may well have missed something; however, I don't see anything in the bill which will criminalize organic farming. If anyone can point out the wording in the bill which states that it would be appreciated.

There is nothing in HR 875 that would criminalize organic farming! Right now, our foods are supposed to be inspected by either the FDA or the USDA but too much is falling through the cracks. The idea is to take the food inspectors from those two agencies and give them their own agency that does nothing but look after our food supply. The Food Safety Administration would require food crops and food processors to be inspected, with fines issued if standards were lax and food unsafe, like that factory that shipped salmonella in all that peanut butter! I wish people would actually read these bills before they start squawking and spreading rumors!

Quite right, Janet. That's what I also saw after reading the actual bill.

Well, the supermarket lobbyists and food processing plants obviously have hired canvassers; they were in our Farmers Market, here in NYC, today and said they'd be there tomorrow, too. They're interviewing and videotaping statements from Farmers Market vendors and customers.

Now, they don't want us to grow our own "organic" food!!! THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS ... how did they slip this one by us?

Spread the word.

This bill has already passed the House and Senate and is sitting on President Obama's desk awaiting his signature.

You can write to the President and give him your feelings about this "food safety bill" that they're trying to slip by us ... tell him not to sign it ... tell him to send it back to those crook$ and liar$ in Congre$$ and demand food inspections and organic foods rather than all those antibiotics, hormones and additives they're giving us now.

Gifts & Items Sent to the White House

Items sent to the White House are often significantly delayed and can be irreparably harmed during the security screening process. Therefore, please do not send items of personal importance, such as family photographs, because items may not be returned.

For security reasons, please do not send consumable gifts -- such as food, flowers, and other perishable items -- to the White House. While President Obama, the First Lady, Vice President Biden, and Dr. Biden appreciate your thoughtfulness, they request that instead you look to your local community for opportunities to assist your neighbors in need.

Where does it say in the bill, Blue, that organic farming will be prohibited, criminalized, or otherwise forbidden? Several of us haven't seemed to be able to find that provision in there.

Since you seem to think it is there, I assume you have read it and can point it out to us.
