Steve Irwin's life was cut short by a stingray's barb on September 4th 2005. I know we all miss him but let's celebrate his life. Please visit his Wildlife Warriors page, adopt a gorilla or make a donation! Crikey, just don't sit there, go! =)

I beg to differ; this man tormented animals for mass entertainment and personal gain and nature finally struck back.

Barb I stand by my original comments. For people who treat animals with dignity look to those naturalists like David Attemborough and Gerald Durrell etc.

Thanks so much...Loved that guy, he did more for animals than anyone has ever done!!

Already had signed this petition, will forward!!!!

Also, I don't personally think that Steve "ever" tourtured an animal...

He should have all of the Stars in the Sky for all of his efforts to let people know about certain animals/creatures...

Steve should be truly applauded for all of his efforts, and I am sure he is truly taken care of now where he is...in a totally special place with all of his special creatures.

Only animal that he wasn't really great with was a Parrot, and watching the Animal Planet, always loved to see him when they sort of came around him...great with the crocs, snakes, etc. but a Parrott?? Now that brings such a great smile to my face.

Yes His special Zoo needs to be protected at all measures!!!

Thanks again Barb!!!!

The word I used Marilyn was "tormented" not "tortured". If someone jumped all over you and poked things at until you attacked him for the entertainment of others how would you describe it? Would you like it?
Not I would have thought entertainment for people who regard themselves as true animal lovers.

Ok, John...

Yes, he did pick up snakes, hold them, don't personally think he poked things at them...I think (in my totally humble opinion) he tried to get a non agressive animal to react to show the public what would happen. Now, that is NOT just for T.V. Viewing in my mind.

I was deathly afraid of snakes until I started watching him and would hate Crocs, he really changed my mind and I truly do believe he changed quite a few watchers.

Tormented...don't think that would be what Steve Irwin did at all in my brain, think he "Taught"...

Just my opinion, and I have mine, just like you have yours.

Matter of opinion:While Steve had a love for animals as such the rest of his family as well as education the real ones who need to be looked at is ones that keep animals in circus..Now thats what I call tormented or tortured however you put it!

Well Marilyn I used to live in "outback" Australia where I worked as a stockman and if I were you I would remain afraid of snakes as far as poking things at them is concerned; of the world's twelve most poisonous snakes ten of them live in Australia. I'll give you this he was a great showman.

Thanks Barb, I am a Wildlife Warrior and still debating what to adopt. - tending towards the green python or a big cat. -= I love them both. Steve, as a young boy at his fathers Reptile Park, taught me to respect and love snakes and also the correct way to handle them - so yes, be wary of them, but you must respect them too.

John, I think you are wrong - Steve loved all creatures, and never poked or tormented anything in his life. He respected all reptiles and they knew that . I live not far from Australia Zoo and visited Bobs Reptile Park at least once a year when I was young, and then took my kids there, then later we all take the grandkids to Australia Zoo and never once have I seen anyone there poke or torment any creature - think they would be fired on the spot if they did.

John R. I beg to differ with you. I have every single book that Durell ever wrote. And he had anything BUT respect for animals. He plundered the forests and captured wild life so he could stock the zoos. Where did you get the idea from that Durell was ever an animal lover???? Durell is a disgrace - and certainly ranks at the bottom of the totem poles of animal lovers. Do some research before you shoot your mouth off.

Whatever Steve Irwin's faults, Barbcat, I salute you for trying to honour him. I know you are an animal lover - and if this news just brings the plight of zoo animals to the forefront then it is a job well done.

The amount of work Steve did to rescue animals from their TORMENTORS ranks high in my book.

Thanks Barbcat.

I want to thank you all for your POSITIVE COMMENTS about Steve. His LOVE & COMPASSION for ALL animals and humanity has touched my life...The first time I saw his face come on my TV screen it was "love at first sight." I've always been a suckor for blonde hair/brown eyes combo and that was Steve-O. But I'm not the only one who fell for his good looks and Aussie charms. I'm so happy he found Terri and together they made such an impact on my world....on our world. ALL MY C2 FRIENDS ARE MY INSPIRATION AND SO IS STEVE IRWIN!!!
