i don't trust them. i hope animal groups keep the pressure on and plant some spies to keep tabs on what these officials are doing. i suspect they are going to build a few token shelters and keep on killing in a more discrete manner.

I agree with Catherine. It is a good start - anything that brings awareness is a start!

Thanks, Sweetie, I hope they follow thru and let the dogs live. They should find homes for them instead of killing them. Don't they like dogs over there?

I agree with Catherine but at least, it is a good start. I do hope that they will do the right thing and not continue with killling.

I'm glad to hear that they finally stopped this brutal and senseless killing of the stray dogs but it is too late to for so many! They should never have committed such cruelty in the first place. I hope that they will really stop the killing. I'm very glad to hear that so many people raised an uproar about this to bring such heartless treatment of these dogs to an end!

Authorities are always quick to kill things in that part of the world instead of rescuing and rehabilitating. Maybe it comes from the old Stalin days when even people did not have rights, never mind an imals.

Brilliant news...if it is really going to put a stop to the senseless killings..... I sincerely hope it does. Well done to everyone that spoke out against this...Just keep the pressure up however! xx

I agree with Catherine T and Darci J.I don't trust them as they have proved for many years their total lack of compassion for animals. If it is an animal they want to kill it.I have a friend and she was born in the Ukraine and relocated to Australia in her early teens and she agrees.

YEA! We did make a difference BUT THINGS MUST CHANGE. THEY MUST start spay and neuter programs, this will solve the problem NOT JUST MASK WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THANKS TO ALL WHO EMAILED, CALLED TO STOP THE KILLINGS BUT let's follow up to make sure that changes are made to help the animals survive after these games NOT JUST FOR TODAY!

'Today, I am publicly turning to all city mayors: let us stop the deaths of those poor stray animals for half a year and build shelters together,' Environment Minister Mykola Zlochevsky told a Cabinet meeting Wednesday, according to his press service.

The Head of Naturewatch, a British animal protection group, said it was pleased with the outcome.
It is not clear though how the ban on killing stray dogs is going to be enforced as the Ukraine has such a huge stray dog population and building shelters will take a long time, in fact many months.

Hope dogs and cats gets out of trouble in Ukraine!!!
Thank you for good news dear BarbCat!

I hope that they listen to him and if they dont I hope that people will threaten to boycott the Championship, its really disgraceful that countries actually do do this.
