Elephants never forget, and that means they never forget about their own kind, especially when they need a little help. According to WMAQ-TV, Shanti, an elephant at the Prague Zoo, is creating and selling original works of art in a fund-raising effort to

Barb....Do believe once you go directly to the news and leave a comment your note is not going to show...Thus, people need to take a peek at newly submitted news and note first, then go and leave a comment. Jeepers, this is WORK and so frustrating!

Great News Hun at site and I would love to have a painting done by "SHANTI" Also, the extra photos at the bottom are an added plus!

This was also done here at the San Diego Zoo awhile ago, haven't heard what happened, but not in the news anymore.

Outstanding Post! Hugs

Such a beautiful intelligent animal!! I am opening an exhibition of my paintings on Tuesday and Shanti is real competition. Love her!!! It's a very creative way to raise funds for a good cause.

Paint elephants, paint trees & then let them be.

Wherever you go there once was a forest.
Plant & protect Danny's trees for life.
Trees are the lungs of the earth.

I have a wonderful book in my library called "Elephants Can Paint TOO!". A NYC art teacher spends her summers in Africa (no country mentioned) teaching elephants how to paint. Their pictures are quite beautiful.

Elephants are so awesome. they should be roaming their natural habitat with their FAMILIES and not being stuck in a damn zoo. I hope painting helps reduce the stress for her..I am not an art fan, but I would buy a painting because of who made it. I wish they would use the money to locate hert to a sanctuary along with all the other animals stuck in cages. Shes BEAUTIFUL!
thnx Barb

Elephants are incredible beings, intelligent and tender. It is heartbreaking to see them in captivity like this. Though it does not appear to be egregiously cruel or violent, to exploit them further by essentially making them work to pay for their own incarceration is a bit perverse. There are so many gray areas, but for me having personally worked with chimpanzees and observed elephants in Africa, I do not believe wild animals should be in a zoo setting. If absolutely necessary sanctuaries with remote viewing and ample acreage serve the same purpose for rehabilitation, they actually serve the animals, instead of our insatiable desire to be entertained by them. If we do not put our efforts toward saving their natural habitat rather than zoos profit margins, we will soon only know animals behind cages rather than how nature and their own desire intended.

One thing is for sure, animals have brains but no understanding of knowledge, Humans have knowledge but no brains, if they (Humans) did have brains they would not do all the horrible things that they do!!!

It seems elephants have an artistic talent, one of our elephants here at Zoo Miami, had some collections she was selling, it was quite successful!
