Thanks to the generosity of animal welfare groups and individual well-wishers, a hero dog from the Philippines whose face was destroyed in a horrific accident earlier this year will soon be flown to the United States for reconstructive surgery.

What a wonderful thing Kabang did saving her ' little girls' , and risking her life for them. Honestly...this is such a beautiful, beautiful dog, with such a big heart all of her own. Bless her, and her family, and I pray that Kabang gets the attention she needs. On a side note, I watched the "Search and Rescue Dogs of 9/11", (bottom of article), and I sure got a lump in my throat watching that. Thanks, Barb for this great story of hope and rescue. xox

Hooray for the heroic actions of Kabang! I hope she will become an ambassador for all the dogs of the Philippines to encourage other families to love and appreciate their dogs, and I hope the surgery will keep her in good health.

Looks like a Shepherd mix. A beautiful dog.... Dogs have a way of showing their unconditional love, loyalty and compassion with humans and humans can learn a lot from them. It is a shame humans do not treat our animal guardians better.

Animals would give their live's for us, its ashame that not all people would do the same for them, instead they abuse, mistreat and kill them with no mercy!!

I emailed the hospital that is going to do the surgery to see if they knew where we could donate. They replied back that they have no idea. I've contacted the newpapers who have done stories on Kabang to see if they could point me in the right direction. I haven't heard from them so far.

Thanks Barb ! I didn't watch the graphic photo it's more than I can bear I think. But what a story ! I do believe animals are superior to human beings in every way even if some of us are good of course. This dog is more than a hero he is the living proof dogs have a strong sense of good, generosity, empathy and love.
Wish him a quick recovery and above all happiness.

If I were subjected to such horrific pain and suffering, I would want to be euthanized, not wait months for possible corrective (and painful) surgery. Really, would you want to endure having bones crushed and your face ripped off, and waiting months for treatment? I hope she was given powerful painkillers. Eating and drinking must be an unpleasant chore for her. And now pregnant as well? I want to save any injured being, but this dog may be suffering beyond reason.

Finding out how to donate has been unsuccessful so far. I can't get anyone to email me back that knows anything if they'll even email me back at all. There is a new story that was done about her at Examiner at this link:

Sorry, I don't know how to make links active.

Ginger Geronimo (438)
Wednesday August 15, 2012, 7:02 am
Actually now that I've read the Examiner story again, It states that fundraising efforts are currently underway for this miracle survivor. As soon as funds have been established to help make this dream a reality, updates will be posted. Therefore I suppose that there isn't a fund yet. I can't imagine why it's taking so long. She was injured months ago!

Kabang is just proof that dogs really love their owners more than they love themselves. God, please provide the fiinances for Kabang's surgery & that it will be successful.

As of September 14, 2012, Care For Kabang has reached its fundraising goal of $20,000. Any additional money raised beyond this will be used for unexpected medical expenses incurred at UC Davis and for Kabang’s future health care needs. It is important to understand that medical estimates are an attempt to predict the course of Kabang’s care and represent an APPROXIMATION of the cost to provide care based on her described condition at this time. However, the actual cost may vary due to changes in Kabang’s condition. Therefore, additional donations may be needed.
