A New Zealand animal rescue organization taught three rescue dogs to steer a car. The dogs used a jerry-rigged break and even shifted gears. The goal behind the stunt was to highlight the unexpected possibilities of rescue dogs and promote their adoption

Wednesday December 5, 2012, 6:19 pm cool is this? I bet my little Corgi could do this. (Just kidding). She likes hanging her head out the window sniffing the air. Aren't rescue dogs the BEST? I think so. Thanks, Barb for this. xox

Hey Barb - does this mean that if I get a rescue dog next time it will be able to drive me to the shops? Because I get mighty tired of walking!

So cool! Hooray for the rescue dogs! That was great, hope it helps adoption. My dogs couldn't reach the steering wheel! Thanks Barb.

Green star to Evelyn - we couldn't watch the ABC clip from here in the UK either - but I searched for 'rescue dogs taught to drive NZ' and got a load of clips - including this one - - wonderful! Thanks Barb - and it was really amazing in a couple of them - the Giant Schanuzer didn't look like a dog driving - he looked rather like a human driving! Hooray for rescue animals - they really are the best!

Noted and thanks for sharing Barb. The big Schnauzer looks like it is a better driver than I am :) At least it is more relaxed than I have been know to be. Hooray for Rescue Dogs coming up with such a clever idea for clever dogs!

I don't think the dogs will be out on the road -- but they might be safer drivers than some humans :)

Cool, thanks Barb. Now if I see what appears to be a dog driving a car in the near future I won't think I've lost my mind. Agree with Greenplanet....dogs would most likely not be putting on make up, shaving, reading the newspaper, talking on the phone, or texting while driving.

OK, but can they get a valid drivers licsence? And what happens if they see a cat on the road? Or a hot pooch? Sorry, but this is too funny!

I dont mind that animals are smart, but somehow this I don't like, if they need to "convince people" that the dog are smart and not second hand well then they should not have a dog those people. all animals should be adored and loved no matter what and if the owner needs convincing well then its not the right owner..

I could honestly say they would probably drive better than most humans!!! But I would rather have this fur baby as a passenger, I feel like they deserve to be chauffeured!
