Well that is a little scary. First a monkey,(Glad the monkey returned safely), then man, then what? Anyone worried along with the American Military, where this could go?

With all the money we have spent on spy equipment and satellites, wouldn't we know beyond a shadow of a doubt if Iran sent something into space? Or do the NSA, FBI and CIA only spy on Americans now?

They want to be advanced and yet they can't just have cameras and other monitoring equipment in the shuttle?? Why put in a live animal when we have the technology to monitor the conditions inside the craft? Sheesh. I know my country did the same thing decades ago, but to have it be done in today's day and age is ridiculous.

Seems that new priorities on diplomatic relationships and collaborative space projects would be cheaper and more effective for them.

If they are so fired up to go up into space, then they should have a human volunteer! Thanks Barb.

I read about this story this morning, and I think that a scientist should have went up into space. Kind of for his country. No takers, I guess, as they sent a monkey instead. Here's a link to another page showing how the monkey really looked. Petrified.!!! Thanks, Barb for this.

OMG!! I went to the link Gran Pat provided and I wanted to cry. That poor little monkey is so sad looking and couldn't move if he/she wanted to!!
The article states.
"That face certainly carries the expression of a creature that has just been launched, against its will, on a terrifying journey into the great beyond that its tiny brain could never possibly comprehend."

Thanks to Gran Pat and to Barb!!

This is disgusting! Why did they have to send the poor monkey? Animals haven't been sent to space for decades...I suppose they didn't want to sacrifice a human in case of a mal function. Animals should no longer be used for any sort of testing whatsoever, this has got to stop! Noted.Thank you BarbCat.

What Catherine said. One would think our spy systems would have let our gov't know that they did this....IF they did this. My Dawg, why don't they leave the animals out of it, they are not humans and cannot TELL the friggin so-called scientists what they need to know . Send a human being up there not an animal. Senseless.

Leave the animals alone! If humans want to go....let them. At least they have a choice, the animals don't!

I'm not shocked at all , They have so little regard for human life that the monkey is probably less than nothing to them , Iran is the only Country were one can legally buy / sell a kidney .
I hope the poor monkey gets to retire somewhere safe & cared for .....

This is a disgusting and an insult to the civilization of the year 2013
Laika was the first dog launched into space but it was the year 1957, in 56 years, technology is radically changed.
Iran is becoming every day more, the most dangerous country for the rest of the world.
Noted - thank you Barýb and Sara for the fw
