"Give me your money and you can talk to your kid." That may sound like a line from a 1950's Jimmy Cagney gangster movie. But in essence, that is what pay telephone companies are saying every day to millions of people who want to speak with an incarcera

At first glance, I can understand how the famiies of prisoners feel exploited at having to pay more for these collect phones calls from prisons than if they were made by someone from out-of-state. Whe I reached the end of the article, I reminded myself these calls are made by people who broke the law and have been incarcerated for it. Their families may or may not have played a part in this, but stilkl bear the cost. I do not condone illegal o unfair tactics at generated the higher-priced calls by disconnecting them for no reason and causing the prisoner to originate a new call with resulting fees that would not have been charged if one call had been sufficient, but I have no problems with the high rates charged these collect calls. Maybe the extra money is benefitting th prisoners, or the people who work there. Perhaps look on the cost of phoning one's family as a reason to stay out of prisons and jails.

Jamie,do you not realize you are punishing NOT the criminal but the family.Think of the children. They want to speak and see Dad.I am a mother and it punishes me.I pay for the calls.I do say some states are worse than others. Some can not afford it at all.

The phone companys don't care about people, they are oppertunist that take advantage of peoples situations, but there is nothing we can do, except boycott business that are hungry dogs, and try to hurt their wallets, I am boycotting corp America I,m try to not buy enything that I can live without. any big biz don't get a dime of mine, is my mato, the gov is telling us to buy to save america, but don't save america by not buying and taking down the gov and the corperations. buy from small corner stores, or growers market. eat less, eat healthy use less.
