Tourist trophy hunters are paying thousands of pounds to go and shoot giraffes with high-powered guns and bows so tourists can take home pictures showing they have killed the animals. The gentle giants are loved around the world for their gentle nature.

Sad, I just shoot them with a camera, and the next person can do the same - so much more enjoyable for everyone involved.

The U.S. has it's fair share of promoters of these types of tragic/senseless/etc...When a nations politicans such as Rick Perry and $arah Palin stand up in public and promote the killing of wild animals for sport what more can we expect. Their rethoric about how they enjoy and beleive it a 'god given right' to kill will animals...even for sport, in their opinions is what has to be stopped also Instead of shame falling on those like Perry and Palin they are supported and revered/admired and as someone to vote for..and that is one big reason why this type of tragic ending for wildlife in general happens, I think. Take the honor and glory out and replace killing of the world wild kingdom for sport and or profits with shame might be a good place to help stop these killings...along with more push to pass laws against killing of animals for sport period.

Difficult to respond to this without swearing.

Is this a contest of any sort? It must be as easy as shooting a house. How low can human beings go? These people are scum.

Hunting should be prohibited and those who exercise it should be in prison. The hunters must be hunted.

I wonder how many of the people commenting here actually read the article, like it is said in the article, it is a complex issue. Yes, it is horrible to see such a noble animal shot dead, but what if that sacrifice is made to sustain the wildlife at large?

The usual rhetoric of "it has to be that way if you care for the wildlife at large" bs. What is the politically correct word for mass convenient killing? Culling? When are we going to approach the same critical junction of mass reproducing of low-lives by culling? For their benefit? Yeah. Sure. Got to keep the human race from extinction right? Hey, let's kill a few! We can go to the moon, we ca keep track of whales and dolphins and other wildlife for research. How about wildlife contraception first, and then, neutering en masse of human beings.

Large game hunting is all about the weak who have tons of cash to do this type of thing. It's an industry...all about the money !! From the rifles/ammo to the 'guides' who track and or pen the animals in a limited area for easy pick'ns as they say down south. AND YES this is also political. In the U.S. Not a single Republican in Congress would vote for gun controls, using 'hunting for sport ' as first, foremost and largest arguement then the quotes about the right to bear arms flys above each time as well. When they was put into our constitution there were no automatic guns/rifles or high calibur ones like those available today. So to that...I say fine ...go out and buy yourself a 'Musket' ! You don't take down a lage animal such as this without a very high powered rifle. Allowing hunting to control wild animal populations 'might' be necessary at times for the sake of other wild animals that one pry becoming over populated with might indanger but a free for all shooting spree on them ...and of 'big game' is not acceptable in my opinion... but try and tell the Republican Congress members that.

Of course where the 'big gam'e hunting goes on the most is our of the boundries of the U.S. but the money trail can lead back to it and it's hunters. Yes, unfortunately it's all about the money when it comes to big game hunting like this tragic hunting death of another of earths magestic 'wild kingdom' creatures. Same for 'poaching' .. Well that's enough of my opinion ..will stop now before the curse words start to flow from my brain to my fingers to the keyboard.
