Most people in China do not eat dogs, and as the Yulin festival approaches, protests and candlelit vigils are expected to take place across the country. On 14 May in Chinas city of Dalian, 100,000 people protested against the Yulin festival.

Wish we could send the ISIS fighters to the Yulin Festival - have them take out all the people attending the festivities since they seem to love to kill people, and then send troops in from around the world to get rid of ISIS. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

What is wrong with the Chinese government and why do they refuse to move into the present?

I wish everyone who participates and allows this event to take place a horrible, cruel death and afterlife.

Ruth S, why unbelievable? China is the most arrogant country. Being a communist country they are deaf to their vox populi. Don't you know how they suppressed their student agitation at the cost of hundreds of lives? I read somewhere some 9 millions of Chinese citizens appealed seeking ban on this fiendish festival.

There is a woman who works against Yulin as well as rescue work. Can't for the life of me remember her name.Have Googled to no effect so if anyone remembers her from the last Yulin as she stood up against them and saved some of the dogs. This was on Tv and broadly published in International Press. So we should be supporting her in anyway possible.

I added this comment because it is all I can think of in response to the frustration that many feel (legitimately).

No real surprise unfortunately. The Chinese government positively refuse to be given lessons in compassion, and be dictated to by other world countries. The only thing that will maybe quell their arrogance and make them sit up and listen; is a MASS boycott of Chinese-made goods - hit them where it hurts financially, but just how is that going to happen? Cars, computers, musical instruments, toys, electronic components, clothing - the list is endless (and I can't think of anything else just now) - we're ALL buying it by the shipload day after day, after day, after day...

I am not surprised, but I think eating dogs is un-freaking-believable. I went vegetarian more than 40 years ago, if not I wouldn't ever eat dogs, believe U me. BTW; -the best true friend I've ever had, was a Newfoundland, she was fantastic! And, finally; Several hundred petitions haven't made any difference in any whatsoever - DAMMIT!!!

It's difficult to think about dogs and cats eaten by anyone. However, we must note that these people were raised on this, by parents and grandparents who also were raised to eat this meat. To stop it you have to change how children are raised. You have to get to the young ones before it is imprinted on them and they think it's okay to do it. Thanx Derek.

I am not really surprised by the refusal to accept the petition. It's not just arrogance which is partly so, it's also the fact that in the Asian mindset, animals are more like objects to be used and manipulated for human use, not really alive. My view is totally opposite that of course.

Karma is coming for them. That is all I can hold on to at this point. I could be my Pit Bull self and amp up but.....why waste my energy on deaf Chinese ears or subject all ma peeps to my highly colorful but toxic rant. I have been boycotting Chinese produced anything for the last decade. It can be done and there ARE AMERICAN or Canadian substitutes. Costs a little more but they can be found. I do it online. If 11 million people did it....imagine the economic bite that would give them. It all comes down to their GREED and how much we want them to suffer. I want them to suffer the fate of all those tortured dogs and cats but, that won't happen so the next best thing I and 11 million people can do is to make them suffer economically. I can do it to the end of my life. I need nothing from them and want nothing from them. Period.

I think its hipocricy to tell a country which animals dearve to die and be eaten when our countries do what they do. However our countries shouldnt murder and eat animals nor kill them in barbaric ways as they do. But killing those digs and cats in the way they do publicly is heart wrenching and incomprehensible. Why are countries allowed to commit such brutal terrible crimes and get away with it. I realised the mindset of Chinese government when I heart they banned Alice and wonderland because it portrays animals as equal to humans and that would be disastrous in their words. What utter shocking ignorant people live in China and unfortunately the rest of the world too

I am not suprised at all that the Embassy does not accept the petition.
But it's not only this horrific dog meat festival, dogs and cats are stolen, cruelly killed or even skinned and cooked alive due to the common belief that the adrenaline will make the meat softer.
I HATE THIS, it makes me sick to imagine what these poor animals have to endure.

Not long ago the Chinese contingent came to the UK and accepted the hospitality of the Monarchy and all that was laid on for them by the Queen and her own entourage. The Queen was heard suggesting to someone afterwards that the Ambassador had been rude to her - and this is the Government that Cameron and Osborne fawn over themselves to do business with - FOR THE BRITISH! Talk about insult on top of injury. Whether you believe in a Monarchy or not there are protocols to follow when invited to a country by it's Head Of State - and for the UK Embassy to close ti's doors to this petition is an absolute disgrace and as far as I'm concerned ALL trade with them should be vetoed by the British Government who stand by and do nowt bu spout about the economy, then GDP and the wonders of Hinkley Point!

The past couple of months I have been spreading the word about yulin. Most people are shocked when they here about this. Although I have encountered a few, who say this is part of there culture and we should mind our own business. This is the same mentality of the people of the 1930s who turned a blind eye to Hitler while he butchered millions of Jews. Torture is not a culture. Folks like I said earlier, this is barbaric. It has to be stopped. If it means boycotting asian products, then so be it. Make no mistake about it, what we are about to see is pure evil and satanic.

I have been thinking. Here on Care2, we earn butterfly points. And I have donated these points to feed a seal, plant a tree, save the rainforest, etc. All wonderful causes. But right now we are in a time of desperation and it would be nice if we could donate these points to Marc Chings organization to help get these dogs and cats out of there. I believe Care2 needs to create a category for this, so that we can donate our points and help.

However, the point is well made. . . wonder whether Eric and the powers-that-be can further galvanize members. . .?

Having read all the above comments I totally agree with those who say a boycott of all Chinese goods would be the answer. Many of us have already been boycotting everything from clothes-lines to cars and from watches to wireless - but not many people are aware that under strict European regulations, IT IS NOT INCUMBENT ON ANY MANUFACTURER TO INSERT THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN OF ANY PRODUCT OR MATERIALS USED IN THE MAKING. In the Global Market One World Economy (New World Order) scheme of things, this probably applies to all countries doing trade in everything from Asia Pacific from shoes made of dog leather and nuclear power stations worth billions made of Chinese steel. (UK government watched as it's own brilliant steel industry imploded just weeks after boasting of Hinkley Point deal with China; apparently just the first in a long line of NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS it has lined up for China to build under the 'auspices' of French energy company EDF (The French government refuses nuclear power on it's own soil as being non-renewable and unclean. Before the political/business contingency went to China from UK to discuss the above trade deals, I was Tweeting them every day with the horrific images coming out of 2014 Yullin. They all made a pretence of lining up to protest about Yulin (UK Govt.) and then went on to secure the Chinese billions in pounds sterling for the above. It made a complete mockery of everything the ordinary UK citizen was trying to do to impact on China to hopefully thus impact on Yulin. That is why I do not trust the UK Government nor the European fat-cats one iota.

Having vented re UK and other world trade with China and Asia Pacific I would just like to say that I think the idea of a Care2 Redeem points for Marc Ching's rescue missions is positive, admirable and very astute. Let us hope Eric and Co. agree to it so that we can actively do something online to help, where monetary donation or street protest is closed to us for any variety of reasons. We have invested all our energies in petitions and clicks for the wilderness and wildlife up to now so we could really 'make a difference' in this sector too. Well done.

❤️Outragious! But I did see a news report saying the Chinese Government may except the petitions but would not be changing anything soon and anyone who protested in China would be jailed. So don't expect change from the Chinese Government anytime soon. They do not care and obviously don't care what the rest of the world thinks either..❤️
❤️Thanking you kindly for sharing this information❤️

.. not many more ideas come to me at this moment, after the petitions we have signed and shared , unless BOYCOTT CHINA - read your clothes labels, boycott restaurants ...

I should think China just to save face would of at least accepted the petition however I believe China views it as the west meddling in their affairs.

GmaSheila is correct, the children are the one's to reach because their parents and grandparents did and do this, is no different to them then many in the west who eat chickens, pigs, beef, even baby lambs. It is a cultural thing and that is very ingrained into the people and their families, may see this as an attack upon them.

The outside community can keep up pressure and offer assistance to those who are working within China to end this practice, they will need emotional and financial help so they can bring more of their own citizen into the efforts to end this. But it will have to come from within their own Country.

I know when the Vietnamese entered the USA after the Vietnam War they were stealing cats to eat and the community where they were being sponsored made an all out effort to re-educate them. It took the social workers, the religious leaders, other Vietnamese who were here longer to speak to them and in time this is a practice that stopped.

But again, they may of substituted cat and dog for chicken and beef.......so it is a long process when people are embedded into a certain society and when it comes to food it is the most personal thing that one does.

Good luck with Boycott China, I know in my own Country one is hard pressed to find anything not made in China. I did that YEARS ago when our jobs were going overseas trying to buy Made In America, it was slim pickings to find anything still made here. Now we have other asian Countries I suppose one can find a few things not made in China, and I do still look for that reason I mentioned, buying American goods.

Best get your own Countries to work on the Trade Agreements which has been killing us to begin with and making the 1% fabulously rich, which I'm glad Walter brought up in his comment. Many western business is making money off of the enslavement of workers in those lands, work them to death for pennies. We are not being very fair either, not sure what the cost of food is over there, but perhaps if those people were a better paid society they could afford to not eat dogs and cats. Is it a cheap way to feed themselves. I don't know if that be the case but certainly something to look into. People need to eat, they'll eat what they can afford.

Thanks to Marc Ching and all the other warriors for these animals.

Business is a massive motivating force with most countries, so if anything can be done to reduce or remove abuse and death to dogs, cats, animals in general, with business being involved in a positive way, then great.

Sadly noted. I am not surprised that even 11 million signature didn't make a difference... these Chinese bastards have no souls!!! Anyone who eats and tortures loving cats and dogs decidedly has none...
