In an effort to send Lolita back to her Pacific home, kids from Philadelphia created a mural of the imprisoned killer whale.

Activists have fought for years to win Lolita’s freedom and send her for rehabilitation in an enclosed sea-pen in her native Pacific Northwest. Eventually, she might be able to reunite with her family. After all, we know who they are, and we know where they are.

Remember the movie Free Willy? The ugly fact is that she (not a he) died very soon after being taken back to the ocean. These whales are very family connected, their mothers and groups teach them to hunt and as they grow the group protects each other. Strangers are not welcome. My heart breaks for the whales and all animals taken into captivity for human amusement, but sending them back is much easier said than done.

One would hope so but i'm doubtful. As long as humans are around, animals will always either be fighting for their lives, living in captivity or sadly killed. I am however so thrilled that these children are speaking up for Lolita and raising awareness on her behalf. Afterall these children are the future. Thank you Tamara.

I sadly agree as well Kit and Ana. And you are correct Natasha, humans are an animals worst nightmare in most cases. I wish I could tell you Laura but I don't understand it either.
