BAYER is staging costly celebrations to mark its 150th birthday, yet the company´s numerous crimes are not mentioned at all in the commemorative publications. Instead of acknowledging responsibility for forced labor, poison gas

I knew this and that Bayer's first product for the market was opium mixed into an injectable solution that was labeled as, Heroin. They made some off label Laudanum, as well but that was oral.

What can I say-no wonder they made it so big if even now in 2013 so many americans obviously did not know about Bayer's history and involvement in the holocaust-I am shocked, too, -but at THAT !

BAYER ... 'proud' inventor of Heroin, which they marketed as a cough medicine, specifically targetting children
BAYER .... solf blood(-products) they KNEW were contaminated with HIV
BAYER ... hasn't changed a bit, and isn't going to, ever. Thus --as corpoRATs are 'persons', aren't they?-- it simply needs to be executed.
PS: CBG = Coordination gegen Bayer-Gefahren / against Bayer Dangers ((who, btw, work --in solidarity with many others-- against the whole mafia, the whole $y$tem, which is only exemplified by the name BAYER)) is on the top of my list of org's worthy of support. Quite small (~2000 members), but highly active and effective for it's size. Every $ to CBG does a lot, many times, more good, that given to e.g. greenpiss or wwf or sierra club or any other of these big ones.

I did not know about this. I can't say that I am shocked. The Natzi's are still killing people to this day. It will never go away. The torture is heroin they introduced. Bayer is a name that will never be seen in my home. I am saddened to read all of this. Thanks Vee and Tamara for the forward.

"...Fritz ter Meer, for example, became Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BAYER. During his interrogation in Nuremberg, he said that the slave laborers in Auschwitz had “not been made to suffer particularly badly as they were to have been killed anyway.” "

This is chilling! --- "...not been made to suffer particularly badly as they were to have been killed anyway.”

I knew Bayer had been involved in WWII but not the extent of their involvement. There is certainly nothing in this history to be proud of except the discovery of aspirin. But the bigger crime I think, is trying to wipe away the unpalatable history by pretending it didn't happen. Had the company admitted it's complicity and then moved on to be a good corporate and social citizen, things might have been different. But apparently they didn't learn a thing.

Now that was an eye-opener! I know how they marketed baby aspirin, with depictions of adorable but feverish babies and concerned moms, followed by depictions of happy, healthy, smiling babies and relieved and grateful moms. How would they market Sarin and Agent Orange?

Thank you, Vee and Tamara! Everyone needs to know about this!

I have to admit that I am totally shocked by this and did check it out for myself. To think that BAYER was responsible for the "Mustard Gas" used by the U.S. in Viet Nam. The heroin in children s cough medicine. I never did know that it was a German Company and its part in WW ll. also its link to Monsanto
Thanks Tamara & to Bill and Katie for the forward

SO the bastards are killing us all and are in bed with Monsanto. Surprised? NO..
THEY KILLED MY FATHER and MILLIONS if not BILLIONS of others and whats being done? NOTHING.
WHY? Because they are in bed with the govt as well.
Glad I dont buy their stuff..seems there isnt many products we can buy with a clean conscience anymore is there? Bayer, walmart, hersheys, mars, P&G, colgate, crest, leiver, dawn, etc etc etc

Good article, thanks Tamara. Yes Bayer has dirty and bloody hands in the Nazi era, also I read recently where some chemical they make is about the biggest contributor to the collapse of bee colonies worldwide.

Angelika R (143)

Kenneth, that is exactly right, in fact we had more than one petition out here to demand Bayer stop their use of neonicotinoid pesticides killing off bees.

Bayer also pushed hard for both WWI and WWII, well before the wars began. It couldn't wait to test out all of its new deadly products it developed before both wars.

Judith Hand (55)
Tuesday March 26, 2013, 1:28 pm
Noted. There are so many things I could say. You know, that many doctors were prescribing opium at the end of the 1800s in the United States. The useage of what we know as Heroin and its effects was seen differently then. Not an excuse, just the way it was. I was given cough syrup with codeine in it as a kid. Obviously, Bayer isn't going to put all of this dreadful info out in their campaign, that isn't done by companies. Someone had to have made the mustard gas and other chemicals; who, if not Bayer? It was a contract, like any other business. Did the leaders of the Third Reich call them and say " we need gas that'll kill lots of people"? I doubt it. But then, I'm not clear on their having their own area there. Did they know what Agent Orange would do? I doubt it. Bayer joined with Monsanto - ugh! We look back at all of this now and it's horrific, to put it mildly. Stuff like this is going to come up and I'm glad that some are fact checking. I'm delighted for the comment from Germany and the knowledge that it isn't a secret to Bayer's home country. My grandmother came over from Germany as a child around the time of WWII. She's not alive to ask. My Dad worked with major companies around the world and had a lot of education, experience and general knowledge but he's not alive to ask. It gets us in the gut, as well it should. We then have to act as reasonably as possible, one foot in front of the other, as truth wins out. It will. Thanks for this piece.

Joanne D (38)
Tuesday March 26, 2013, 3:03 pm
Well, I did know some about IG Farben - but not that they were in bed with/joined at the hip to Bayer. I do note that aspirin is not the issue here; responsibly used it can be very helpful. Apparently Bayer wouldn't recognize responsibility if it came to the door and showed ID. Any more than Monsanto or Dow would.

And the ancient Egyptians at the time of the building of the great pyramids had a secret miracle drug that they were famous for. That drug? Aspirin, in it's acetylcilic acid form. All bayer did was discover a way to put it into a stable pill form.
