Raising the Minimum Wage Is Cheap and Easy

At the current rate of $7.25 an hour, a full-time, year-round worker would have gross pay of less than $15,000 a year. This is less than half of what the average Fortune 500 CEO makes in a day.

There is no question, the minimum wage in this country is a disgrace.

Gee, all those big corporations might not be able to pay disgracefully obscene bonuses to their CEO's and still make HUGE profits if they paid all those worker bees a living wage!

It's the right thing to do. Everyone needs to be paid a living wage.

Thanks Carrie - everyone needs to be able to earn a living wage. Studies have been done that show that the greatest contentment in a country is not due to the amount of things they can buy, but the least disparity between the richest and the poorest.

I live in Santa Fe, NM, which has the highest minimum wage in the nation (10.29)! Why? Because for such a relatively small city the cost of living id astronomical! Ask anyone who lives here. We own a mobile home and live in one of the two most expensive parks in Santa Fe. Over $600 a month for a very small lot. We pay all utilities as well as our internet and Direct TV! Living on SS makes that more than a little difficult. I really feel sorry for all those young people trying to survive here!

Do people who pay such wages not realize that they are exploiting people? Or are they nearly broke themselves? How do they justify this behavior?

Raising it is cheap but it won't be easy since the very idea will be met by resistance from every rich, 99% hating, pro-corporate elitist (in other words conservatives) but it must be done. Many people who earn twice or 3 times minimum wage are struggling to stay afloat so you can imagine how difficult it would be for someone earning only minimum wage. With inflation and the costs of goods and services constantly rising we the 99% are paying today's prices on yesterday's wages. Here in bumf**ck AZ it's $7.65 which is barely anything since prices here have gone up faster than in other places, why I don't know since AZ likes to tout itself as a place with much to offer (to insufferable conservative elitist bigots maybe) but has very little to validate those claims. Thanks Carrie.

It seems that it will be difficult to raise the salary antwhere. In other countries like Greece which require bailouts, the basic salary is being slashed. The monthly salary there has been reduced to USD 600.. total per year USD 7200 . Bear in mind the cost of living is higher in Greece than the US. The corporate giants agenda is to reduce the basic salary worldwide- cheap labour- larger profits. i am afraid that this what they are trying to do.

Raising the minimum wage used to be an easy to do bipartisan issue since it was such a nobrainer of being good for both the economy and people with being such a jobs creator...why does the GOP no longer want those benefits for us?

It needs to be raised! It costs so much to raise a family! A lot if parents make minimum wage, if hey Russ it they'll be eking the youth of our society!
