Agricultural giant Monsanto Company has risen to the top of the corporate food chain largely thanks to its seeds. These are no ordinary seeds -- they have been genetically modified (GM) to withstand and even produce herbicides and pesticides.

GMO's are so scary to me i read an article about a week ago that was saying that farmers who are growing GMO corn have been having to buy alot more tractor tires because the chemical in the corn make the cornstalks really hard they have kevlar in it thats the same stuff used in bullet proof vests and they use it to make the corn more resistant to bugs and worms this sht scares the hell out of me

Well isn't that just more proof that evolution will out? As Monsanto and Cargill etal, produce stronger petrochemical based pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers to create more "frankenfoods" the biological reaction is that of ever stronger weeds and pests. Who couldn't see that coming?

Those in California really need to read this article and consider very deeply how they will vote.

"Opponents of Proposition 37 claim GMOs are harmless and would unfairly bias people toward the organic food industry. Though there has been no conclusive evidence that eating GMOs leads to health problems, the FDA does not require safety studies before approving them and Monsanto has lobbied the USDA to reject any and all outside studies when considering applications for new strains. Leaving health aside, the onslaught of superweeds and superworms alone should afford Californians the chance to decide what types of food they want to support."

I don't understand why, when "91 percent of Americans support GMO labeling," it has not been done. Come on politicians - do your job!.

Joe, it is because the chemical companies lobbying against it, and they have enough bucks to keep it that way, at the expense of everyones health.

What will it take to live in harmony with Nature again..?
Why can't these corporations make their gazillions from healthy products.....? The voices of our values need to be heard over the roar of misinformation and generalized apathy... Why do these monsters have permission to poison us...?
Where is the voice of sanity to both protect the Earth and her creatures, and to uproot somehow this noxious weed of blighted horrors we call progress: GMOs.
What a can of worms this is.... Thanks Carrie for posting this...

Ban GMOs - support Prop 37! There have been studies in Canada showing that Bt is in large amounts of the population - including pregnant women - we do not need pesticides in our tissues doing untold damage!

These organisations like Monsanto are so arrogant and so stupid - everything that happens in nature adapts - insects and microbes and invertebrates generally adapt relatively quickly (mammals and others are a little slower. However, think of rattlesnakes venom - that evolved to kill their prey, then prey evolved in the fullness of time to resist the poison - so rattlesnakes succeeded that had stronger venom, and prey evolved that could resist it. and snakes evolved... and so on and so on - so we get today to the position that rattlesnakes don't just kill mice and rats - but they can kill humans and horses! ). GMO creators think they can stop nature just because they have altered something's chromosomes - they should have thought rather harder about ecology first!

Nature always evolves - how ARROGANT to think that they could out-think the whole of nature with its millions of organisms - utter blithering numbskulls! And we are the one's who will have to live with what they have done - BAN GMOs!!

(see Dr Mercola's site and others for news of a quarter of a million farmers' suicides in India because of GMO crop failures etc).

Monsanto has opened Pandora's Box and now we all have to deal with their mess. Who needs terrorists when we have Monsanto?
