A Northern tribe have a mental condition whereby, because it is so lonely there, especially in winter, they eat their nearest and dearest because they want to "be one" with them. This is the first time I've read of someone willing to be eaten to "be one" with a tiger.
I suppose it is natural to want to "be one" with someone who is loved and admired, but I think the man probably suffers from poor impulse control for some other reason. Rather than arrest the man, I think that he should have a psychiatric examination.
One could say that poor impulse control is probably a common condition among young people that are brought up on computer games and TV. As well as that, there are other means of instant gratification. It's as the old song says: "The trouble with the world today is instant coffee in a paper cup!"
But I think that there is more wrong in this case than that.

Should have let him have a few more minutes in the enclosure so as to truly beome one with this beautiful cat!

Alexandra's right, of course....no SANE person acts in this way. What's scary is that it COULD have ended with the death of the cat!

Noted. I'm so glad that they are not going to euthanize the tiger. The man was incredibly stupid and it oculd've been so much worse. He obviously was not in his right mind but he should be facing alot of charges. As far as I'm concerned, he should also be charged with endangering an animal as his actions could've spelled the end for this magnificent tiger.

Alexandra is onto something. This may be a case of passive suicidal thoughts. I hope the man gets help. I'm glad that everyone else was sane enough not to punish the tiger.

They better arrest and prosecute that idiot, because if the tiger had not run away from the fire extinguisher, they probably would have killed the tiger to save the stupid man.

Some of these comments are a bit insensitive and disheartening to read. Did he make a mistake? Yes. Foolish? Absolutely. Wish the best for this man and let him face the consequences of his actions without further ridicule. The tiger and its caretakers are fortunately all okay, and obviously more security measures should be enforced to make sure this does not happen again.

In addition to my last comment, I've been to the Bronx Zoo numerous times in my life, and once on the very ride this man jumped from. I would hate to see it shut down because of this.

Well he would have achieved that if he was eaten. STUPID!

While he needs help and some can feel sorry for him, I surely hope the animal is made to suffer the consequences of this foolish action. The ride should continue as well. here in ithaca we have had a few suicides of students jumping off bridges into our beautiful gorges. Now, in gross over reaction and expense they have screened and netted the bridges (many) and the view is now pretty much through chain link!

One mentally ill person is going to ruin the ride for everyone. I hope they don't change the ride because of one idiot.

This man has realized a fundamental truth: the only way to "be one" with the tiger is by way of the tiger's stomach.

You can't blame the tiger for doing what comes naturally.

Stupid people do stupid things.

Anyone taking bets on whether or not this guy was one of those delusional AR nuts?

They are usually the ones without a healthy respect for large, dangerous, feral animals.

He may have sustained previous head injuries which physically damaged the part of his brain that handles impulse control. If so he is not going to get it back regardless of treatment.

This guy is an idiot and has mental issues. The tiger was going to be the looser and be killed all because of this man's greed for himself. There needs to be plans in place to protect the animals from humans.

a mental health condition for sure. He may be off his meds, or he may need to be on some. He's living in a dream world. A lost soul. I hope he gets the help he needs in a safe place.

I, also, would love to be "one" with a tiger. But probably not like that, lol.

Seriously, though, it wouldn't be bad at all to be a tiger's dinner if the tiger was starving and I was already expired. Couldn't think of a nobler way to be disposed of. And cheap, too! The final "multi-task."
