Hillary Clinton Takes Responsibility For Libyan Tragedy, Republicans Explode

US Politics & Gov't  (tags: Hillary Clinton, republicans, government, ethics, democrats )

For weeks, Republicans have been trying to turn the 9/11 attack on the American embassy in Benghazi into a scandal. They've claimed the president refused to acknowledge that the attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others was terrorism...

We all knew that Hilary Clinton is the Secretary of State, that she makes the primary decisions for the functions of the state department. Republicans are trying to make an issue where none exists. There is no history in either this nor the Bush administration of "sending" in the marines for each time another 9/11 anniversary comes around. The first responsibility for providing protection to our embassies around the world belongs to the host country, as it has been.

Playing the old and very worn out game of could have, would have, should have is for children or very desperate republicans. They might have been able to use the old political tool of turning a bad situation to an advantage, if Romney had kept his mouth shut, at least till he knew what was happening. Now the finger pointing, though it really is only working for those already a part of deep right wing nut jobs.

Oh dear, did the Obama Admin. learn Nothing from the Bu$h Leaguers about shirking responsibility & shrugging off any blame??

Kit is Right.. Blaming Obama for this is typical dirty Republican politic mud slinging. Presidents appoint certain people to do certain jobs. Hillary as Secretary of State has the responsibility for the State Dept:

Note: "What the Republicans are trying to do is to scare Americans with the specter of Islamist mobs running amuck all over the world, as if everything is falling apart and the Obama administration is to blame. The administration has acknowledged that security could have been better in Libya.

But the fact remains that, without a US military occupation, there’s no way to defend an embassy against a determined assault by a well-armed militia. In every country, it’s the responsibility of the host nation to protect foreign embassies, and in Libya not only is there no well-organized government but in many places, especially Benghazi, militias rule.

Nevertheless, there’s no reason to believe that the battered Al Qaeda organization had anything to do with the attack in Benghazi. And more importantly, there is no coordinated Islamist attack on the United States brewing across the world."
My additional 2 cents: Because "We" were a party to taking Gaddafi down in a most unceremonious style, this left no one to lead Libya. in that respect, "We" should have been more thoughtful..

I have never believed the official story or, the film did it rhetoric. It always had the smell of something contrived which would only benefit the war whores, especially those in the region,. And we all know who they are. Need I say anymore?

Romney jumping all over the Benghazi issue, while it was still be investigated, sent up smoke signals or, at least it should have. The way Romney badgered the President about Benghazi last night was very telling as well. Romney is desperate..The Pres held his cool as a president should.

I believe there are over 270 US embassies in the troubled areas of the world - They all need extra security. Nobody can guarantee 100% safety 100% of the time. Stuff a sock in it, Romney.

Why is this even an issue? From the transcript of Obama's statement from the Rose Garden the day after the attack:

Remarks by the President on the Deaths of U.S. Embassy Staff in Libya

Rose Garden 10:43 A.M. EDT

"No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for. Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the very best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be done."

Does the entire GOP have ADD?

And if the GOP is trying to blame the attack on Obama, then I hope they have the integrity to blame Reagan for the Lebanon barracks and GWB for 9/11.

No wonder Clinton is leaving Obama, how much lying, defending, protecting, covering up is one person supposed to do for an administration?

Hey Allan Yorkowitz, did you miss this part of the article?

"Apparently taking responsibility for something that is actually your responsibility is a “disgrace” to Republicans."

So the president is responsible for the people he puts in charge AND what they do? The people he puts in charge of things have NO accountability or responsibility whatsoever? WOW. No wonder the GOP is so irresponsible.

Aren't Repukelicans PATHETIC?
Aren't their Koch-brothers-paid TROLLS here on Care2, and elsewhere of course on the Internet, aren't they PATHETIC???
Getting their LOCK-STEP TALKING POINTS from the Repukelican National Committee, the RNC, and blathering on, showing their gross lack of mental ability....

and their TOTAL LACK OF ANY MARKETABLE SKILLS, to STOOP SO LOW as to WADE THRU REPUKELICAN SCHEISS for a no doubt pitifully small amount of Cash... so they have to keep churning it out, day after day after tiresome day...

There is pretty good evidence available on the Internet, if you FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL, that the idiotic semi-porn video offensive to Muslims was MADE BY RIGHT-WING REPUKELICANS, ON PURPOSE TO STIR UP CHAOS FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA'S ADMINISTRATION.
These Repukelicans are really TRAITORS to the U.S. -- but, there is NO DEPTH TO WHICH REPUKELICANS WILL NOT STOOP, NOT EVEN TREASON....

I'm sure Repukelicans would have instigated the attack on the American Embassy THEMSELVES, if they thought that would defeat President Obama in the elections... it would be JUST LIKE THEM, the Repukelicans have been TREASONOUS ON SO MANY LEVELS...

and they CANNOT EVEN UNDERSTAND the concept of Moral Responsibility, or any OTHER concept except the PATHETIC PAYCHECKS they DEPEND ON...

Aren't you glad, boys and girls, that YOU ARE NOT A TROLL?
Not a DEGRADED FORM OF LIFE with no mind, no intelligence, NO CONSCIENCE whatsoever???
Just making your money ANY OLD WAY, it doesn't matter HOW, you'll find some way to justify it...

Thanks, Carrie--makes my day when those Rep. heads explode. This Admin. knew it would be disseminated under a microscope by the GOP, and is always careful to present the facts. Agree with BMutiny that they are without conscience and treasonous. If they were to attack the Bush Regime during those 8 yrs, they would've been castigated for being "unpatriotic". Now, they have no fear--although they should be looking in a mirror every time they speak against Dems & the Pres. In fact, the fascists live in the GOP.
I'm so sick and tired of their bloviating and outright lies and accusations that I don't watch much news. I learn all about it from The Daily Show & Colbert. Fortunately, they present it all with laughs. Pretty sad, though, when we have to leave it up to the Court Jesters to tell us the truth.
