When Gov. Romney gave his acceptance speech at the Republican convention he quipped that President Obama wants to slow the rise of the oceans and that he, by contrast, wanted to help American families.

Romney does know that global warming is man made. So do the Koch brothers. They are not stupid. they just want to make as much profit out of the fossil fuel industry and its spin offs as they can. They donot care about anyone else perishing. With their money they feel they can keep themselves safe. They won't care about their great grand children. So they think it won't affect them.

haha, with the water levels rising he will not be able to help American families then.

I think helping stop global warming will help American & all families in the world, today and in the future.

If there truly is a creative deity in heaven, we cannot elect Mr. Romney......

"Anyone who thinks all this is funny should be disqualified from being taken seriously, not only as presidential candidate, but from holding any responsible position in public life." -That's it .It was probalbly one of the few, if not the ONLY true thing he ever said when stating he is"not in this race to...heal the planet".What a shame and pity that yet too many Americans are obviously supporting the race he is actually in, wait for Karma, folks.
Thx Carrie.

One might logically think that everything that has come out of Romney's forked-tongue mouth in the last 2 years would come back to haunt him, but it hasn't. His lemming followers are either too stupid to realize how badly they are being duped or, more frightening, don't care. Let' face the facts, folks. Not one person in this country will vote FOR Romney today: they will all be voting AGAINST Obama. And the future of the country be damned.

"When Gov. Romney gave his acceptance speech at the Republican convention he quipped that President Obama wants to slow the rise of the oceans and that he, by contrast, wanted to help American families. It would be interesting to see if Romney would care to repeat this line today"

Funny thing. It does seem that there are many who are all of a sudden concerned about the debt left for their kids. And yet they don't care at all about what they are doing to the planet. Or maybe they will just be glad that there are no more Wall Street Bankers.

"Of course, there is not a direct chain of causation from global warming to hurricane Sandy, or any specific weather event. The relationship is probabilistic; because of global warming we can expect to see more hurricanes and more severe hurricanes. The same is the case with other destructive shifts in weather."

Well, if it is a smoking gun you are looking for that will come later. Probably some 50,000 years from now when the ice has again receded and life gets a second chance on Earth when she has finished cleansing herself of the virus that has infested her. Us. We can hope that the next sentient species will read the fossil record accurately, find that smoking gun and not repeat our mistakes. I say our, but truth be told, that isn't quite accurate. This current situation and that which is to come can be laid at the feet of a relatively small percentage of Earth's population. Alexandra is right. They KNOW, they are not stupid, just liars and ne'er do wells who care nothing for the rest of us or their own descendants as long as they may live like kings now. Let's hope their names are prominent enough in that fossil record that they may never be forgotten, that their names live on in infamy as the men who destroyed homo sapiens over sheer greed. There should be a wall of shame in this new beginning and all their names should be carved into it, that their mistakes never be repeated. That would be just reward for what they have done.

Nothing about Poland is ever in the news. Poland did not fall into recession during the crisis just a slowdown but NO RECESSION. The reason I mention this is since early 1990s, Poland has implemented political and economical measures, which have resulted in a significant improvement of the environment. Notably, many inefficient, polluting factories have been closed down. Also, new policies promoting environmental protection were introduced and continue to be implemented, including the “polluter pays” principle . The best illustration of the encouraging effects of these actions is a consistent reduction in total greenhouse gas emissions, while GDP continued to grow .
In the USA The Koch Brothers want it to be illegal for huge corporations to pay for their pollution - but they think it's just fine to make the American people pay the price for cleanup.

noted----thanks especially to Janice b.--above---who gave us news of Poland and how it is doing economically and environmentally. What a great country. I love and admire Poland.

So, Romney says he wants to help 'American families'? Yeah, I believe that. *IF* your family makes over $250thou/year.

The rest of us, however . . .

There may be a difference between 'drowning in debt' and just plain drowning, but I seriously doubt that Mitt Romney understands either problem.

As Clarence said, if he can sleep nights now, a little thing like this isn't going to keep him awake.

You ever wonder why whenever there is a stray bullet it always seems to hit some poor innocent person and never a Koch brother? Guess the devil looks after his own. Actually, the Koch bros. will probably live forever since hell doesnt want them there because the property value would drop like a stone. How sad is that?

Rising sea levels would displace millions (or maybe more) people around the world, not to mention animals and plants and their habitats.

Perhaps climate change/disruption seems abstract and unreal to some; to others it is all too real.

I am writing this while watching the election returns. It looks to me like we can tell Romney to go stand in the surf.
The Joke is on him, the Koch brothers, and Citizens United.
They will be worse than before in trying to stifle the president for the next four years. but we won't let them do it easily.

He lost. Obama continues to dither. But shouldn't rising water be more of a problem for Norfolk? And should you have more disdain for someone who does not recognize a problem, or someone that recognizes it, and still fails to act?
