The president went on to say, without any real subtlety, that he has a mandate on this, and the American mainstream agrees with his position -- he's not going to extend all of the Bush-era tax cuts, and the Republican hostage strategy won't work.

Let's look at this from a practical standpoint. Huge, Right-leaning corporations poured billions of dollars into the economy through Super-Pac ads, which helped speed up the recovery, which helped get Obama re-elected. So in a sense, Sheldon Adelson and the Koch brothers inadvertantly aided in the President's re-election, all the while making themselves three of the most hated people in the country and blowing a boatload of cash in the process. The ads were really irritating and offensive, but where else but America can rich, selfish, arrogant jerks pay through the nose for the opportunity of cutting their own throats. Then blaming the rest of us for their idiocy.

It is about time Obama lit into the Senate and Congress for stalling the governmental processes and causing harm and denying America a true government for and of the people

Let republicans do their hostage/ ransom demands. Let them close down the USA. Apparently we still have people out there, that still don't get the picture. Sending a gridlock congress back! Let the demand past without answere. Let the hostage come to realize that they are the ones that are the hostages. All the way to 2014 then lets vote again and see if that motivates some inteligenece to the polls. If not keep doing it to 2016. Think even the most ignorant will get the picture by then.. {BUT} do not give in !

Thanks Carrie for the link ti the video and article. President Obama laid out his position not only to the congress but to the American people who will hold hold the congress accountable in the 2014 election. I would encourage every one to write, call and email your Senators and Representatives to tell them you stand with the President. Read, watched and noted.

Times are changing. All of those in congress up for reelection in 2014 better get with the program or get the hell out!

Noted, thanks, Carrie. Although "we've heard him sing this song before" he does have a mandate from the people, stronger than ever. We have his back and hope he can carry this ball all the way.

Obama is not bright. How do we know this? His past four years of leading behind....at no time has raising taxes produced jobs. Obama should know this but his narcissism won't allow him to think clearly.

No, Lois, remember that Obama only won the election by 51%. There are millions and millions of Americans who aren't buying what he is selling. This is called more "gridlock." History will not be kind to Barack Hussein Obama. This will be four more years of his leading from behind. His arrogance will ultimately be his legacy.

Diane, you really should stop before you embarrass yourself anymore. Your taxes will be raised because there are too many republicans who want to be reelected in 2014. Also, history has shown us that raising taxes on the wealthy will help our economy.
