Every little thing about the 48-year-old Rice matters now that she's the presumptive front-runner to replace Hillary Rodham Clinton as secretary of state.

If it's true that she's got money invested in Canadian Oil, I don't think I want her to get this job. We'd have that damn pipeline mucking up our countryside in a heartbeat.

Thanks Carrie for posting the link to the excellent article. Ms Rice is smart, intelligent and capable but I think she would better serve the President by being nominated for another major post and not SoS. Read and noted.

And we all KNOW how the liberals out here hate the rich people in America! But, you don't seem to hate this one who is worth $33 million. You need to make up your minds. If Susan Rice was a republican you would be tearing her apart because she is rich, lied to the American people about Benghazi and is directly connected to the pipeline. But, you aren't doing that. You are raising her up on a silver platter because she is a democrat and she gets a golden "pass."

This would be a very bad nomination but it seems the alternative is the rich guy from Massacusetts! His disgraceful history while in the Navy should eliminate him.

John, the indicators are there not to nominate her and John Kerry is a loser, non patriot IMO. However, the bar seems to be set very low for nominating quality people to office by the liberals.

So, we're still Swift-boating John Kerry, are we? I would not be surprised if the President has somebody in mind that you all haven't even considered yet....

Rice's adding to the Libya tragedy is a quality Obama seems to like in people - talking before finding out if what is being said is true. I guess that's why he chose Biden.
Rice's buying into Canadian oil companies is an interesting twist. It just so happens that Obama's support of what could be one of the greatest environmental disasters in history, the Keystone pipe line, will in its creation bring Rice an additional fortune. They have this in common; they're no environmentalists.
Additionally, she is disliked in UN committees. This has nothing to do with being a "strong woman", this has to do with having the ability to be a diplomat- or is that not a qualification anymore in becoming Sec. of State.

Arielle, Obama is very predictable. He has a pure socialist agenda. He'll nominate someone he can control. I'm very glad that Hillary is stepping down. Susan Rice has too much baggage now. And, John Kerry is not well liked in many circles. Plus, he is very very RICH....thanks to his wife's money! I know you folks have a problem with the rich getting richer.

I am just like Suzanne, here...I learned alot more from this article about Rice...........and I really like her "savvy"...but as an enviromentalist, I am a bit stuck on her possible influence on the possible pipeline , that WE are fighting against....NO ONE CARES THAT SHE IS RICH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......and people can and do divest, as facts come out!....it is always okay to change one's mind, with the changing times!!!
If it comes out that she was to divest, and then invest in green energy..I would so back her!....so after reading this article and another one, I have changed my mind from 2 days ago, when I totally backed away after hearing about the possible issue over the pipeline.....so now, I am going to "sit on the fence" and collect some more REAL info, to form my own opinion!.....Thankyou Carrie!!!..Excellent post!

Thx Carrie for highlighting this woman again. If she is as smart as most here suggest she will not sit and wait but rather take immediate action and get rid of those oil and bank stocks. We'll see from there on.

FactCheck: nope, not socialist agenda--not even an impure one.
Definition of socialism (n)

bing.com · Bing Dictionary
so·cial·ism
[ sṓshə lìzəm ]

political system of communal ownership: a political theory or system in which the means of production and distribution are controlled by the people and operated according to equity and fairness rather than market principles
movement based on socialism: a political movement based on principles of socialism, typically advocating an end to private property and to the exploitation of workers
stage between capitalism and communism: in Marxist theory, the stage after the proletarian revolution when a society is changing from capitalism to communism, marked by pay distributed according to work done rather than need

Anyone who is appointed to this job needs to be fully accountable; transparent and fully vetted. The fact that Rice has a personal investment in the Tar Sands Project means she could be compromised easily. There's John Kerry who did his best to find another place to moor his boat so he could avoid paying Rhode Island taxes. These people are scoundrels and will employ any method they can to get away with paying their share.

Michael, the Obama administration has more than a handful of tax evaders, too. Even their golden boy, Warren Buffett owes $1 billion in back taxes. And all the liberals want to do is criticize Romney who has paid his taxes according to the law and has never been charged with any crimes. Obama's side of the table is quite different.

Diane, how do you know Romney has paid his taxes according to the law? Have you seen them? No one else has.

On another thread was an ABC story on resolution of Romney's tax case--a resolution that occurs when the taxpayer violated related laws...I believe Jason posted it. I'd like to see the source on the allegation against Buffett (if not from an official government source the allegation could be a legal violation itself).

My pleasure to enlighten you, JLA and it's from a biased left wing outlet.....The Huffington Post

A corporation is distinct from individuals Diane under the law. Buffett personally has no tax issue so you committed the offense of libel. The HB, the company, is embroiled in a dispute with the IRS where the final determinations have yet to be made so it is alleged or possible, not founded fact--this is playing fast and loose with the facts and misrepresenting them where a newspaper would be sued if they misstated the facts in the way you have...morally repugnant and indefensible IMO.

Noted. Thanks, Carrie. I don't know if her investments could be put in a blind trust, or whether it would matter. I would be much happier if Obama had an alternative to either Rice or Kerry. Taking his Senate seat would be a crushing blow to Elizabeth Warren, who ousted Scott Brown. With an empty MA seat, it would pave the way for Brown to get back in the Senate....very bad timing.
