The day after Labor Day, just as campaign season was entering its final frenzy, FreedomWorks, the Washington-based tea party organization, went into free fall.

"FreedomWorks has been on a remarkable run in recent election cycles, growing its annual budget from $7 million to $40 million in just a few years and helping lead the tea party movement against Obama’s agenda."

Good article, Carrie. And it says something I mentioned elsewhere too but didn't recall where I'd read it - it is just amazing that fascists so often co opt the word Freedom and use it in their title's and papers when what they are all about is truly the opposite. When they say freedom, they mean for themselves to oppress everyone else by forcing their views on us. This story read like a coup, an armed coup at that, right here in the US. Shouldn't Armey and his armed co conspirator be in jail, having ceded their right to "freedom" by walking into a building with a weapon and ordering others out of it? Isn't that a lot like what mass murderers do? Apart from the letting these hostages go that is. Yeah, everyone should be packing heat, no doubt about that, it will certainly raise the level of public discourse and advance the cause of freedom. Or maybe not.

I'm sorry...what?! Armey walked into the building with his handgun strapped on like he's Maverick, like he's Eastwood without the empty chair? Are you kidding me? Was he waving that gun at anyone?

What utter lunatics - all of them.

And these are the people that influence politicians on how they vote on specific issues, yes the inmates have taken over the asylum.

Sort of like the sociopath who got caught; cries on TV or in court Gene. He's only crying because he got caught and can no longer continue to do what please him or her.

I've copied this comment on the original article here for anyone who has missed it as I think Flipper's remarks are right on the money. Enjoy.

What do the John Birch Society, Libertarians and the Tea Party have in common?
The oily fingers of the 'Sell Out America for a Dime on the Dollar' Koch family.
John Birch Society: Fred C. Koch (1900-1967), founding member.
Among other lunacies, Fred C. Koch "claimed that the Democratic and Republican Parties were infiltrated by the Communist Party... He wrote that 'The colored man looms large in the Communist plan to take over America,' and that public welfare was a secret plot to attract rural blacks and Puerto Ricans to Eastern cities to vote for Communist causes and 'getting a vicious race war started'."
The Cato Institute (Libertarian Valhalla): Originally named The Charles Koch Foundation. Founded and funded by Charles Koch, son of Fred C. Koch.
Citizens for a Sound Economy (the origin of the Tea Party movement): Founded and funded by brothers Charles and David Koch in 1984. Split in 2004 into two new Teahadist organizations, FreedomWorks and Americans for Prosperity.
The Koch brothers own America's second-largest private corporation (built on the money Fred C. Koch earned developing oil resources for the Communist government in Russia). Current annual revenues: circa $98 billion.
The Kochs' record of environmental and worker-safety violations is long and hair raising. It includes "the dumping of hundreds of thousands of gallons of aviation fuel into wetlands from its refinery in Rosemount, Minnesota" and the illegal dumping of "a million gallons of high-ammonia waste water onto the ground and into the Mississippi River." From 1999 to 2003, Koch Industries was assessed "more than $400 million in fines, penalties and judgments."
Guess what? The Koch boys, multibillionaires, want lower taxes and fewer regulations.
And they have managed to con a bunch of uneducated, barely literate goobers into acting as their stooges.

Let's hope that the two factions stay at each other's throats so they are distracted and rendered impotent when it comes to destroying the country more than they have already done.

I just read today that it's illegal to carry a concealed weapon in, why was this allowed to happen without a criminal citation? Meanwhile, David Gregory is being verbally attacked in print for showing a multiple clip on Meet the Press because it's outlawed in DC as well. Please stop my head from spinning.

Lois, from what I understand it was not concealed. Right there in a holster on his hip! Quite 1860, don't you think?
