Barack Obama sounded reasonably confident Friday evening that a deal can still be reached. But it's his job to sound optimistic, and not to anger Mitch McConnell and John Boehner.

God help Obama and Congress reach an agreement right NOW. I'm sick of not knowing if my SSI check will go down or up. It's the Yo-Yo Syndrome and Americans deserve better! TY for always taking care of my personal needs. TY Carrie.

Thanks Carrie for the link to the article by Michael Tomasky. I applaud President Obama for his optimism but frankly I hope no deal is reached. Nothing will happen immediately after Dec. 31 and the backlash from the American electorate towards the GOP will force them to admit defeat and pass the Democratic plan or they will face angry voters in 2014. Read and noted.

The Republicans wouldn't recognize the truth if it was staring them in the face.

Whether or not they pass anything, the American
public already sees the Republican party as the
ones responsible for dragging this into the last
hours for no good reason - again.

Boner is battling with 30 Karl Rove, college republican, tea baggers that have been brain washed. If he wasn't so drunk and emotional, he could come to his senses and call them out but he almost agrees with them.

I smell the 2nd down grade in this soon to be called, depression.

We're all gonna get screwed ... and the Republicans blamed if they jump or not. I SAY JUMP, LET BO OWN IT AND STRAIGHTEN OUT THE MESS.

Once again the GOP shows their duplicity in willful acts of treason.

Those I see on here who are blaming the President are just plain blind to the facts. This is all about the Republicans STILL wanting the President to fail, even if it means killing our economy. Again I say, this is treason on the part of the Republican party, and the politicians behind this conspiracy (McConnell, Boehner, et al) should be charged with treason.

No deal is better than a bad deal. The one thing we have to avoid is the middle way. President Obama has ofter been to the right of Nixon and the GOP is now to the right of Genghis Khan. There's a dead skunk in the middle of that road.

The GOP wouldn't recognize truth if it came to the door and showed ID (they would probably say the ID was forged). And for any of you blaming the President for not giving way, what are you smoking? He has already given way too much ground and had better not give any more.

No spending cuts no nothing. Democrats did this to G. Bush (1st) (no new taxes) and Reagan. Learn by the lies of the dems they promised they would cut spending if taxes were raised and did not just continued spending, so di the republicans..

"Obama refuses to meet in the middle." . . . . .

Yes, thank goodness, AT LAST he is finally refusing to go to their middle.
He went to the middle - he even STARTED from their end of the field - they just relocated the entire field, Every time he went to the middle they moved the goalposts so that he was still outside.

"He needs to stop the manipulation attempts and quit political theater."
Are we talking about Obama or Mr Vaseline Eyes Boehner here?

Maybe if you turn your binoculars round and look through them from the intended end you would see how perfectly your description fits the other guy.

This is about leadership and not about a personality contest or campaigning."
"Boy scouts have better adult leadership than does this country. " THIS IS SO TRUE !
The GOP hasn't left Kindergarten yet, judging by their actions and reactions.

Starting with the supreme court and corporations are people, my friend . . .

Although I'm not too keen on the Boy Scouts' official attitude to gays or any other minority groups, for that matter. Baden-Powell must be spinning in his grave at the sight of the US Scout mainfesto.

I wish these Mentally ill politicans would get their head check and reprogrammed to understand that they are suppose to be for the people, not themselves. Thanks Carrie

OBAMA MUST NOT BEND ONE MICRON. We the people WILL NOT HAVE CUTS to anything. It is NOT our job to pay for the wealthy to be wealthy. No subsidies, no perks, no polluters, no gay legislators who wo't allow anyone else to be gay, No more cheating the electorate for their wealthy sponsors. No more bull.

Wanna raise money? Tax the wealthy, end subsidies, tax polluters for clean up. Tax big gas, oil, coal, chemical and genetic modifiers so that damages to us and our continent are cleaned up with their dollars not ours. Refuse to buy products that are marked up. We have paid enough. No one needs more than 3 home or 4 cars, etc. on us. Enough don't you think?
