Oprah Winfrey once talked about her binge eating. She described an incident where the only things in her kitchen were hotdog buns and maple syrup so...she had had maple syrup buns! But I don't think it was a concoction - just a binge of whatever was there. Thank goodness I've never done this. I have over-eaten but who hasn't?

II have to agree with Chris C about binging on whatever you have on hand, so that could explain the strange food concoctions.

Interesting article! Like BarbCat, I always associated cravings for strange concoctions with pregnancy and never heard of this eating disorder being quite prevalent in the population until I read this article!

Interesting, but I think that it's really eating whatever is around and not caring what type of foods just as long as it fills the emptiness inside...

Food cravings are not all bad, sometimes it is your body telling you it needs something it may be missing. Bingeing is a whole other challenge, over eaters anonymous is great for people who suffer from food bingeing and there may be underlying emotional issues that need to be addressed. I have been there so I do know. One should never ever be ashamed, get help it is out there.

Interesting -- maybe binge eating does something odd to the chemicals in the brain, or the emotions leading to binge eating do something odd to the chemicals in the brain -- leading to craving unusual combos of food.

Some of these concoctions sound like what happens when you are hungry, open the fridge and just eat what is there.
