I don't care if Big Pharma is making a killing on these flu shots, they are helping to prevent the most serious form of this flu. Get a flu shot - and Wash your hands, wash your hands and wash your hands.

About three days ago a 7 year old boy died in Dallas within 48 hours of being confirmed as a having this flu - so please - an ounce of prevention....

The flu is hitting hard in some provinces in Canada. I live in Alberta, and it is epidemic proportion now. There were a great number of people who didn't have the shot this year, and they are recommending that people still get one. I didn't have one and still have the flu!
Thanks for sharing Carrie..

I guess i will play the devil's advocate - there is research saying that this flu shot does NOT prevent the flu this year - I have never had a shot and haven't had the flu in over 28 years - my husband got one for the last 2 years and got sick both years - last year almost hospitalized - sick for 2 months - this year he hasn't had one and is OK - my friend got one and was just in the hospital for 5 days - so think it is an individual thing.

This really IS serious! There are many who say the research says the flu shot doesn't prevent the flu. So, why would you want to risk this? If I had a nickel for all the people who tell stories about not getting sick until they got the shot, I'd be rich. Could it be that it's much worse than before? Could it be that in this crazy, more-toxic-than-ever world, we are more open to gettling sick. More people have it now and spread it more easily. Just a few stray germs on a grocery shopping cart could do you in. Get the damn shot!

Flu vaccines are designed to vaccinate against the most commonly expected strains of the virus. Those who manage to get the flu even after receiving the vaccine are usually getting a different strain of flu virus that was not expected.

There is always that one in a million chance that their is an effective batch of the vaccine. That's what happened to me and a large group of people in Arizona in 1996. We all got the vaccination within the same time frame and from the same "batch". Since that is a very rare event, it has not kept me from getting vaccinated every year.

People die every year ~ usually children and the elderly ~ and most of these deaths are preventable.

Good article and good advice. For some reason we are not being too hard hit in Ontario.

Hi Thanks for the info.
I don't get flu shots and never get the flu.
I think hand washing, exercising regularly and eating a rich in fruits veggie and whole grains will lessen chances of getting the flu.

Noted, tweeted, read, tweeted and shared. The last time I got the flu shot was in the late 70's. Result was I was unable to walk for around three weeks. I was fortunate. Some people were unable to walk for longer than six months. I made a decision never to get the flu shot. I am rethinking it now since I became diabetic this year and I am 69. Probably won't this year, but if I am still around, I will do it next year.

I never got flu shots. But now, that I'm volunteering in the hospital I HAD to take the dang flu shot or I couldn't volunteer so I got it...,resentfuly.

And here I am with a bad cold, really bad! I gotta get out of bed to do Care2. I mean, there's animals suffering and politicians who should be demoted to third grade in school.

I never got a cold or flu when I didn't get the dang shots. And I'm 70.

Never worried about keeping my apartment neighbor awake with my coughing!

Don't you give me logic.

That dang flu shot made me catch a dang cold.

lol, sorta

Get away from me. I'm contagious.

Unclean! Unclean!

Dang!!!

I wanna go to the hospital! My hospital where I volunteer. I wanna greet my nurses who let me help. I wanna take coffee and soda and books and a professional listening ear to my patients. And I reckon I won't get to go back until.....,,,? Cause I'm contagious.

Dang fllu shot!
