"It's an honor just to be nominated." This is the sort of modest, self-effacing statement that Academy Award nominees will often make to assure the public, the media and perhaps even themselves that they're not desperately, fervently hoping to take home...

And yet, I'm always glad to check out the nominations for Best Movie....I wouldn't know about many of them otherwise. Last year, "The Tree of Life" was among the nominees that lost. But, I was interested in seeing it because of the film clips. So, when it came on pay cable a few months ago, I was so glad to be able to see it...and it was definitely worth a nomination, in my opinion. The Independent Spirit Awards are broadcast on Sundance the night before the Oscars, and I always take note of movies I'd like to see from that as well.

I confess I'm not a movie fan, so can say little about this...but I do enjoy watching Oscar presentations..AND I would be happy if the film "5 broken cameras" would win one; I just heard it was nominated for the Oscar.(we had several posts about that film here on C2)

Shows how far I have drifted from movies and especially from awards that the word "nom" obviously means something very different to the author if the article than it does to me (LOL).
