It's probably the biggest fight in recent history between environmentalists and the natural-resources industry. And if you've ever eaten salmon, you might have a stake in the outcome.

Greed will probably win out. Alaska is a very republican state. :( I hope I'm wrong though.

Man, I'd hate to have to be choosing between copper and genetically modified DNA. It would me no salmon at all for me then.

"The EPA has concluded that mining is the most polluting industry there is." So, that seems like it should be enough, along with all the comments received to keep Bristol Bay pristine and ward off mining. Although, I guess when you refer to the difference between billions for mining, and only millions for salmon....and the Kochs have stuck their nasty snouts into it, too.
Although: "By invoking the Clean Water Act, the agency probably has the tools to stop the mine and possibly withstand the inevitable legal challenge." Sounds like a no-brainer to me to keep the salmon business booming.
I am a bit confused though, because there is a huge fight against a multi-national Canadian mining company to stop it from mining south of Tucson (where I live). Seems like these points have been taken here, and yet the fight continues......

Thx Carrie. I frankly do not believe the EPA is strong enough to stand up against this, I wouldn't bet on it.
As a compensation for the original they designed the frankenfish for you early on.

There's only one way I like my fish - alive and swimming free...
