George Lucas and Steven Spielberg recently took part in a symposium in which they predicted an imminent "implosion" in the system as a result of the industry's current obsession with blockbuster movies.

Really, Carrie....have you actually SEEN the film?

I have and I thought it was respectful, wildly creative, imaginatively filmed, wry, FUNNY and a great romp!

Pam, I didn't write the article~just posted it. No, I haven't seen the film, but plan on seeing it when it comes to Direct TV. Bad press or not, I am a huge Johnny Depp fan and the movie was filmed in New Mexico , so I will watch. I make my own decisions and leave the critics to do their critiquing.

Glad to hear that because this entire team deserves something better than just bad reviews.

If this is Tonto, then I lived in the Prehistoric Ages. The same for the Lone Ranger. I haven't seen and don't intend to see, the movie. Just looking at the ads and trailers for it make me feel sad that a good show/legend has been ruined. I have found another reason for avoiding Johnny Depp movies. He can't leave well enough along.

Like many of you I grew up watching "The Lone Ranger" every Saturday morning and I loved it! But let's be honest~it was far from realistic. It was pure fun and entertainment, which is what the new movie is meant to be. Lighten up and think fun.

This is perfect timing as I have just returned home after seeing it. I laughed out loud throughout the entire film. It was one of the few times I wanted a 2 & 1/2 hour movie to continue. I go to a movie to be entertained and this was nothing but entertainment. My friend already told me she read the reviews and they weren't good. Well, I seldom agree with the critics who seem to put more value on the serious, "meaningful" ones.....like Chariots of Fire and The English Patient...YAWN!! I also saw World War Z and The Heat and liked both of them too.

As a Johnny Depp fan, I will say that I'd like to see this movie in the theater, and hope to be able to make time for that soon. I really need some good laughs.

"Let's reinvent Tonto!" It should have been titled Tonto and The Masked Man!

I am looking forward to an entertaining movie myself. Hollow critics don't impress me. I prefer to watch the previews and decide for myself. I thought the critical comments about violence to be laughable. "Clean" violence was pretty much the order of the day in older movies and TV shows. How much blood did you actually see in movies and TV shows from the 50s? I grew up watching them.

"Vulture.com" a rather fitting name....

I agree with Sharon.H. Sheri said, " I haven't seen and don't intend to see, the movie. Just looking at the ads and trailers for it make me feel sad that a good show/legend has been ruined. I have found another reason for avoiding Johnny Depp movies. He can't leave well enough along.".......if you haven't seen the movie, then why would you feel qualified to judge it? Since WHEN does the story ever claim to be factual in the first place? "Legend"? Legend of WHAT? "leave well enough ALONG"? That sort of shows the credibility of someone who not only doesn't have a clue about the "legend", but why Depp made this movie in the first place. He wanted to portray the story from a different "angle"........one where Tonto isn't merely a "sidekick" speaking in one or two-word phrases. HE's the main character, and the movie is absolutely a spoof, quite funny and well worth seeing. I saw it last week and I'm STILL laughing about it. I'll buy the DVD when it comes out, also.
