Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) on Wednesday mocked an effort by Democrats to protect the rights of African-Americans by saying their amendment was actually meant for "the snail darter, various lizards, the lesser prairie chicken, the greater sage grouse and...

And vile Gohmert is more lowly than all of the noble wildlife he mentioned. This idiot should have his pay revoked.

Please don't underestimate this "twit" as he was voted in by people who genuinely believe what the GOP/Tea Party stands for - or what they say they stand for. He, like all the other GOP/TP, believe they can redraw the precincts to negate minority votes and thus will be leading the country in 2016.

Stop and think - it may actually work in some states. If they do this in enough states they'll win. The 2014 election will be their testing ground...they'll change the district lines in only one or two states and if not challenged, or if challenged and win, they'll know what works and what doesn't.

He may be one of the poster boys FOR abortions, but he has genuine power. Scary, huh??

You're right GGma. Even though he is definitely STUPID and probably DRUNK...so are millions of others. Looks and acts like an ET mutation experiment gone terribly wrong so he et al were dumped off here awhile back. Probably ties in with the recently discovered yet unexplainable sudden radical European DNA change a few thousand years ago. New jobs could be created by building just enough rocket sleds to port ALL of the GOP & buddies to Newt's Moon Colony project. But that is just too selfish and dishonors the moon in a most unjust manner. . .self deportation anywhere would be great for the the US. . .but a toxic nightmare for wherever they're headed. . .we need to be ever vigilant and act accordingly. . .

Alas, GGma and Elle are absolutely correct. It's one reason why I get distressed when they "retire" and prefer not to demand apologies when they talk like this - much better to widely publish what they are saying, and too go into elections against discredited candidates. Share it widely!

If there's ever an example of why abortions should be kept legal, it's this despicable, vile, cretin...His Mother would have done the World a favor, by having an abortion when he was created...How can this "thing" be a US Congressman?

Extraordinary, truly egregious bombastic and contemptible fool. However he is dangerous if he is able to pass dangerous laws because he is surrounded and supported by even greater stupidity.

So the jackazz in chief from Texas espouses yet another insanely ridiculous point wholly unrelated to the legislation at hand and gets no rebuke from his party, which then must be deemed to agree with him. The lot of them should crawl back into the sewer from which they arose. There are a lot of damn fools in the House but this one is near the top of the list for just plain ignorant bigotry.

It's funny, Gohmert is a minority himself, alleged humans who function with no operational brain celle firing. A true freak of nature.

Gohmert got his present political office due to redistricting in northeast Texas. He holds the dubious distinction of being the first reuglylican since reconstruction to do so. So gohmert is the poster boy for the Machiavellian planning of the GOP come 2014. Gohmert is no fool, prejudiced to the core of his being and truly believes he is better than the "rest of them thar critters, you betcha) but we on the right side of logical, rational thinking must never under estimate these "hitler like" thinkers. They really do think they are better than us and will justify every evil act they commit to further their agenda. Their agenda is to keep minorities DOWN at any cost and the gohmert group are not to be taken lightly, to do so will be at our own peril. Gohmert is the evil within not the terrorists at the gates.

When critters are safe from extinction and Republicans become a critically endangered species, may we please usher them into extinction?

Any species which depends on ignorance and hatred to exist should become extinct.

Rep. Gohmert is an embarrassment to his district, to his state, to his country and to the House of Representatives. I cannot understand why he continues being elected. It does not speak well for the voters in his district.

I remember the days when Republicans were pretty much the equivalent of people and I was one of them. When did it become de rigeur to be stupid, hateful and ignorant to be one?

The last decent Republican in Washington left in 1987 and died on May 29th 1988.*

26 years without a sane office holder. 25 years without a sane living one.

Forgive me for saying this, but it doesn't surprise me at all that he comes from Texas, the place where everything is bigger, including egos, insanity, racism, and idiocy. I'm glad I left when I did!

In defense of Texas, many of the politicians are elected because of the Republican tendency of if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit! This is a prime example of Texan BS and not the stuff that comes out a Male Cow's bottom which is not nice to step in, but makes good fertilizer. It is often compared to money in that it can be beneficial to spread it thinly over a large area, but highly toxic when too much is concentrated in one place. This usage differs from metaphorical bullshit, while toxic in high concentrations, is toxic in low concentrations as well. The comments Gohmert made have really shown how toxic bullshit has become as it appears it is he only thing has a thorough knowledge of.

America, you never fail to unpleasantly surprise me. Is Gohmert allowed to say that, even as a rep.? And have his party members stand by him?

Today my newspaper carried a three page article on how bad racism has become again in the US, especially of Afro-Americans. My husband and I wondered how that could be possible when the US has Obama as its president
But then I thought: it may be just because there is an African=American man in office that this minority is getting the brunt of it. Obama becoming and remaining the head of the country brought out all the hatred and envy that was still there just under a very thin surface in a group that is sensing, but not yet realising, they are going to be the minority soon. So fear makes them lash out at the 'old' minority because that's all they know how to do.

However, it's alright to pass bills laden with hundred of billions of dollars in pork side bills that benefit the Big Six or some other corporate privateer beholden the GOP is beholden to. I don't exempt the Democrats either. The whole system needs a complete overhaul. I'd like 144,000 Warrens and Sanders please. Maybe then we'd have a fair system that is by the people and for the people.

And another moment of silence by the rest of the GOP! Repugs, indeed!
