Voted NO at the poll - No - 82% (285 votes) . A little push-off is better than nothing... and because of the fire in the NM facility I thought it could not operate anyhow lacking cooling means ?

Angelika, evidently money is no object when getting up and ready to slaughter horses!

No horse should be slaughtered 4 meat. It's so barbaric the methods used to kill these majestic animals. These horror houses of death are ill prepared to handle an animal this size...even smaller animals aren't stunned properly and suffer agonizing deaths. Just a bloody shame what's happening to horses. Thx Carrie

I never thought states would actually put this horror into effect. This could happen only in this administration.
From LBJ on (except Kennedy who could not ride because of his back issues)all our Presidents have been a lover of horses.
Nixon was not a rider, but a great supporter of wildlife; even Carolyn Kennedy received a pony for her birthday-Macaroni.

Everyone keep calling your representatives and asking why your tax dollars are paying for a USDA meat inspector for Horse Slaughter when they have been CUT for regular meat inspection under the Sequester?

This is truly wonderful news. I spent the day riding and then giving them baths-I think 'we'll celebrate in the barn with new apples! Now if the injunction is made permanent...

Up to 86% "No" now but I agree with Paula, 14% "Yes" is too many.

A "temporary" restraining order is just that. It's just another "stumbling block" and only delays things. Joanne, the numbers you posted are "noteworthy", but please consider that they are derived from "polls" where people at random state their opinion, or in sites such as this one, fill out a "poll question". That only means that the "test market" is biased, since in Care2, it would be reasonable to assume that more people would be against slaughtering horses (and many against slaughtering any animal for that matter) than those who either don't care or have done their homework and realize it's the logical approach to dealing with unwanted animals AS WELL as those raised intentionally for food. The world will not ever be totally vegan, so why do some think that killing the messenger will prevent the message from being delivered eventually?

Diane L., perhaps we should slaughter and eat your horses, since you are an advocate of this disgusting practice.

Carrie, that was extremely disrespectful and down right cruel and mean! Yes, I'm an advocate for having the industry available to those who want to use it. MY horses are very well taken care of, BTW, so they wouldn't be affected, and if you'd bothered to read my comment, two of them were saved FROM slaughter and now are in my pastures, very well taken care of. Consider yourself no longer in my Care2 friends list if this is how you misconstrue what has been said and how much of a lack of self control you appear to have.

I noticed that you've never responded to my question, asked twice. I HAVE done what I can to save horses from slaughter. What have YOU done, personally? How many of the unwanted horses that will be sent to slaughter (if the plants re-open) or that will otherwise be abandoned to starve to death are YOU prepared to take and care for? Until you are prepared to do more than just attack anyone who believes differently than you, then at least try to remain respectful and civil.

The best solution, close all slaughterhouses and become vegan, then you feel so much better.

YES. A TRO is only granted if there is a likelihood of success at trial. Which means this is very good news indeed.

"A TRO is only granted if there is a likelihood of success at trial. Which means this is very good news indeed"...........untrue. A temporary restraining order is just that............temporary. A judge will grant one if there is sufficient reason to do so upon request of the party seeking it in order to give more time for a permanent decision to be made either way. TRO's have been granted for many situations, and often, it just causes a delay in the process. In this case, it gives A/R people more time to come up with reasons WHY it should be made permanent. If they can't come up with MORE reasons than they've already provided, unlikely the order will be permanent.

Here's another example.........individuals get TRO's against others all the time. All it takes is one party going to a judge or court and paying a small fee and requesting it and giving a reason "such as" the other party is a threat to them. The order is given and the other party then has time to refute or deny the "cause" and the requesting party has more time to prove his/her case to have a permanent order granted. I've yet to see anyone who requests a TRO being denied. It's almost automatic. .
