The Obama Administration has said repeatedly that it opposes horse slaughter. But actions speak louder than words. What's happening now in Nevada suggests that the Administration through its federal agencies is actually complicit in sending horses to...

467 wild horses are at Fallon Livestock auction today in a shady stealrh backroom deal between the BLM and indian tribes...a horse laundering deal... Call the white house hotline today and urge Tom Vilsack and the Obama Admin to intervene.

To quote the article:

"The Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) have a legal responsibility under the Wild Free Roaming Horses and Burros Act to ensure that protected wild horses on federal lands do not end up being slaughtered. In this case, the feds have admitted that horses were herded off public lands (green and light brown above) and due to the close proximity of the capture area to a BLM Herd Management Area, we believe that many of the captured horses are federally protected wild horses."

Once again, the government lets us down. NINETY PERCENT of Americans oppose horse slaughter, and the rounding up of wild mustangs to be sold for slaughter - but our voices are being ignored. What more can we do? Laws are passed to protect wild horses and burros, yet shady back-room deals are signed to round them up anyway, and sell them to the highest bidder to be inhumanely trucked to foreign slaughterhouses and murdered, their once-free flesh sold to so-called gastronomes in cruel countries like France. Ranchers hate wild horses on federal lands, because they compete with beef cattle for scarce resources, like food and water. Ranchers are powerful and always seem to get their way (as is evident here in New Mexico). I am sickened and appalled by the actions of our government and tribal leaders. We must keep fighting them! Thanks for posting, Carrie.

As a Native American, I am shocked and very disappointed that the Indian reservation named in the posting played any part in what's happening. While I would like to investigate their side of the story, I am very sad over the part they played in this tragedy.

Julie,

Late yesterday evening a federal court judge in Nevada issued an order to block the sale of all unbranded horses at the Fallon Slaughter Auction today. The ruling was in response to a lawsuit filed by AWHPC and others.

Sadly, an undetermined number of branded horses "owned" by the tribe that rounded them up will still be sold at the auction. Unfortunately, no law protects these horses. Their terrible fate highlights the need to pass U.S. legislation to ban the cruel practice of horse slaughter once and for all.

AWHPC is on hand at the auction today to ensure that the no wild horses are sold to the kill buyers, whose trucks will soon be lining up outside the auction.

We can already tell you that the Temporary Restraining Order has been delivered, that we've been asked to leave the property, and that the auction owner is sorting branded from unbranded horses as we write this.

Here's our view right now:

Thank you for your support that has allowed us to file this litigation, and for making your voice heard yesterday to the highest levels of our government.

We will keep you updated on this fast-breaking situation.

Thanks,

- The AWHPC Team

I guess horses will be rounded up and slaughtered. I think its disgusting and no matter how many articles
we see on it, nothing happens except that the horses end up slaughtered. Big money in stealing wild horses because they are basically free.

This is so sickening, I wish people would keep their word but it seems like all they know how to do is lie to all of us about everything. Its so sad. And to think the American Indians had anything to do with it too, where would they have been without the HORSE!!
