The controversial prairie dog hunt sponsored by a Los Lunas gun store is over with hundreds of the animals dead. The week-long hunt ended Saturday with 500 tails brought in to Gunhawk Firearms although owner Mark Chavez says many more prairie dogs were...

This is nothing more than a publicity and money making scheme ~ all at the expense of hundreds of animals. Now Chavez is going after coyotes again. His December sponsored hunt heeds to be stopped now! While he claims to be helping ranchers, he is only helping himself to the bank!

Sick and twisted man. Is there a petition for the December coyotes??

Coyotes do not hurt ranchers and neither do prairie dogs. For the life of me I cannot understand anyone who gets joy out of killing. Are these animals being killed on private or public lands? I will watch for a petition to stop the coyote hunt.

Noted with sadness and disgust. Greed and publicity are what's driving this gunshop owner - his 15 minutes of fame could end very abruptly and no one will remember his name only that he sanctioned the murder fo innocent willife. Thank you.

This has to be the dumbest thing ever---and so damn pathetic. Stop murdering these cuties. These animals have as much the right to live here if not more than us. I'm so disappointed with the human race. Thx Carrie

Chavez is such a coward he has not yet made his December kill public. I even checked his website, and the December calendar is blank. He is probably "putting the word out" in a more private fashion so as not to get too much negative attention. What a self serving, money hungry, cruel coward is Mark Chavez! Time to let everyone know about him and his cruel intentions!

"Contest" my ass - I hate these things, where it's like shooting fish in a barrel...be it prairie dogs, rabbits, snakes or pigeons, man will find a way to glorify their murder.

I belong to a group that is trying to raise $14K, the cost of removing some Prairie Dogs from harm.
But there will always be more, so we must find a way to stop this...i wish I had an answer!

As for coyotes, the rancher's are the biggest god damn liars there are. The government pays them compensation for every animal they lose, and even for "made up" losses, which they get away with so easily...
And unfortunately with employees like Jamie Olson, F&G is screwed from the get go..I've seen internal memos where they just hope us "animal lovers" will forget and just go away- which isn't happening as long as I'm alive!

Where does this prick get the balls to simply declare such hunts against free roaming wildlife which he has no ownership over? Certainly enforcement, cattle ranchers and farmers, must be on board and looking the other way. No-voice no-choice no justice.

I hope a thousand little prairie dogs who are still alive break into his house and start chewing on his balls and go on from there till there is nothing left but his rotten bones. And the same goes for all who participated in these gruesome acts of slaughter. May all the innocents rise up and take revenge against these heartless bastards. I know, I for one, would hold the door wide open for the the little guys. I am so angry I cannot see straight. Thanks Carrie.

signed. So cruel and unnecessary. There is always a right way and a wrong way to do things and most imbalance is caused by something Mankind has done. They need to study and understand the kind way to bring back balance, not killing.

I am ashamed of my fellow New Mexicans, and also pissed off. These creeps are not hunters - they are murderers. They enjoy killing, plain and simple. Karma will get them in the end. And as for the innocent prairie dogs, I am glad they are protected here in the city of Santa Fe - but elsewhere, they are targets for any idiot with a gun. ARGH!

Twisted greedy bastard, just to sell his guns. Gun laws in the US really need revising. Of course the gun lobby will stop that.
The automotive industry made cars safer to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries.
The US is loosing more people due to gun crimes than car accidents or conflicts were US troops are involved. Gun crimes are played down unless there is a huge massacre. But a car accident or a soldier killed in action is big news. That is the gun lobby for you: shoot some one if you are bored, that is OK, but use our guns.
