Michael Brown and a group composed of family and friends were gathered in July at the North Charleston Wild Wing Café to say farewell to a cousin who was moving away. The party waited for two hours for a table only to be told by a manager that...

Sad testament for the 21st Century, but shows the idiocy and bigotry of some places still today. Noted with thanks.

All white people living in this area should avoid this restaurant. This is outrageous behaviour, and should not be allowed. We are all the same.

Sometimes you get to reuse your comments here:

Good to see so many willing to march again, because somebody has stopped the clock at some time in the last 50 years and is even trying to turn it back. Get that clock going again, for all people.

In this day and age if the white person truly felt threatened, he or she should have picked themselves up and quietly left the restaurant.

South Carolina... I'm assuming this restaurant felt the Civil Rights was for all the OTHER states.

Is so great to know that all racism has come to end in the Unites States, you bet! I can remember scenes like this only too well in the "bad old years". This is something we can not tolerate in a country that boosts it's the best country in the world. Best for who?

I hope the restaurant has deep pockets to cover the future lawsuits of 25 people!

Sad thing is, as a business owner, I am pretty sure they can refuse to allow anyone they choose into their restaurant, and the only repercussion those people have is to hope people will stand with them and boycott the restaurant. I sure hope that this story spreads like wildfire and that the restaurant goes down.

Most of us are not in South Carolina, but Wild Wings is national, I believe.

This is a low blow. The patron who felt threatened still sat there for 2 hours and didn't make a fuss, while the other family sat there quietly. It is bad enough for the whitey (which I am as well) to "feel threatened", but for the manager of the restaurant to take his side and as good as say, White is ok, People of color are not so go get lost. Why did the whitey not say something earlier? It sounds to me like racial discrimination of the highest order. You can be sure if someone of color felt threatened nothing would be done. The "conversation" the officials had is not enough. A personal apology taking a full page in a newspaper should be published and that should be the least Wild Wings does. They should do more to show that they don't condone racisim, but they won't.

Racial discrimination is alive and kicking all over the country. I hope all 25 of the people in Brown's party sue Wild Wings and win. If Wild Wings was so intent on correcting the situation they had time to do so when Brown first contacted them. They ignored him until he took it public proving that to be the only reason they offered his group a free meal. What will they do if another white person feels threatened again? The manager should have be fired as soon as it was brought to their attention.

Problem is that most places have a small sign on the door which says "We refuse the right to refuse service to anyone."

However....this family ALSO has a right to freedom of speech! I sincerely hope they use ever possible facet of the internet/social media to make sure that thousands of people know about the policy of this slimy restaurant.

Wasn't it South Carolina that was the first to secede from the Union? I've lived in the North for over half my life and I simply can't comprehend this racism.

Just one more example of why I'm proud to live in the North. I've never seen or heard of anything like it. Kudos to Ann B. for saying it first. She speaks the truth!

What ever the problem was, this white woman had no business telling the restaurant manager to keep out the Brown's group. If she was uncomfortable then she should gotten up and left. No need for a scene. I think the manager was out of line refusing to serve them. Plus the manager let a group of 25 paying customers go for one person who is uncomfortable?

I am a white woman and I disapprove what the white woman did, she should have gotten up quietly and take her food home with her.

Shame on the manager.

I believe most Restaurants would just tell the complainer they May Leave! Explain They have a Policy of No Discriminaton and they are Welcome to leave! NoBody is making them stay!
All would have been fine!
Thank You

In any age, but especially in this day and age, the restaurant acted stupidly and with malice based on race. Had I been that manager faced with that situation, I would have given the white patron the option of staying, or paying for their food and taking it as a take out, End of discussion.

If I recall correctly, a New Mexico court very recently said that a wedding photographer could not discriminate against a gay couple that enlisted the photographer to do their wedding pictures. I also remember a florist some months back (can't remember the state but think it was in the south east) that refused to provide flowers for a LGBT wedding. The florist was sued and the client won forcing the florist to provide the service. If I recall both were held to be public businesses and were not allowed to discriminate. In both these situations, it was after the business owners became aware that the clients involved were gay that the service was denied.

@ Deb E --- I'm not so sure that you can decide who you will do business with that easily. In this situation, by saying a table would be available in 2 hours, the restaurant has committed to their service. It is after that point that the discrimination occurred.

5o years after MLK Jr's 'I have a dream' speech and this BS is still going on. Disgusting!

This is what happens when some of our so called leadership has hinted at and allowed it to go on since we've had a black man in the White House. This has grown and continues to spread because it was never far below the surface. Nothing like a race war to make the arms dealers happy, the Corporate thugs that love it when we are at each other throats rather than seeing the clear picture.

The Manager played right into the hands of this and should be dismissed an apology given to the family should be given at the very least. As for the white woman who complained, she too is buying right into the Fascism that is being perpetuated in this Country and has joined in being a mouthpiece to the destroyers.

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” Abraham Lincoln

Last I looked there was nothing that said you had to be a certain color nor a particular religion to be an American. People best start to wake up here real fast or we all go down on this ship.

Well said Sheryl and Lincoln was so spot on, so much that I have to repeat it.

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” Abraham Lincoln

And that is happening today, slowly but surely. People are being manipulated by divisive rhetoric; pitted against each other for the plutocratic agenda. "Divide and conquer" keeps people's minds occupied and with hate rather than focused on the things that should really matter to all people --- life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all, not just a select few.

25 people? That would require reservations/private room wouldn't it? People may have gotten loud, which could have been disturbing, but not threatening. If I had to wait that long, I would have ordered a delivery pizza!
