"Mandatory" government spending includes Obamacare, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and government pensions, all programs that benefit senior citizens who -- according to a recent poll from Democracy Corps -- have begun to turn against the GOP.

Hopefully when Boehner talks about cuts he's including reducing Congressional pay to the same levels as Social Security recipients.

Cut CONgre$$ional pay, With-hold that pay, & Freeze all their accounts until the "hostages" are released! It didn't work before & it won't work now - shutting down the government will do MORE for the Progre$$ive & Democratic Parties than working "with" RepubliCONs Ever will!!!!

Two words come to mind when I think of 'Boner'... *Vomit inducing*...if wanting to be polite as to my thoughts when it comes to him and his GOP of hate/fear mongering/wars for profits...corporate/banksters in general.. They've taken our nation from one of 'rich and powerful' to one of economic ruin and war montering faster than most of us could have believed possible just a dozen or so years ago.

Aint that the truth, Jae! Why is bankrupting the country (morally & economically) the ONLY thing politicians can do quickly & effectively????

Can you believe how much money would be available for us normal folks if the government would not spent a fortune on wars and even space research? I am not even talking about all the waste of money they are using to pay to all their consultants each year.

Noted. Got a bit of a laugh here when reading that the senior citizen base is turning on the GOP. Guess Bill O'Smiley just isn't doing it for them anymore....so, maybe Fux Noise will also implode---or is it in the process of doing so as I type here? Didn't I read somewhere that Hannity got canned?

Dream on Boehner....Ain't gonna happen. Pay your bills, do your job and stop being the deadbeat party...Getting paid for doing nothing but harm like the bunch of freeloading moochers that your party has become. The GOP is the party of useless government workers they keep warning us about. Get off the public dole GOP.

Birgit, space research is very important to our society and is responsible for many medical and technological benefits. The biggest issue there is that governments are using it for military purposes.

As to Boehners comments, they really aren't much of a surprise. The Right is pushing this (again) and even Mitch McConnel is under fire for not holding the country hostage by his constituents. It's not amazing that a political party who think nothing of killing hundreds of thousands of people in the name of Corporate military profits would try to deprive their own people to find more money to give to the military war machine.

Boehner should get a sever case of skin cancer - not unlikely since it's obvious he spends way too much time in the brain cooker - I mean the tanning salon!

I can think of lots of things to cut before any of these. Obama's travels, Congressional travel, Congressional perqs, White house and Congressional medical care and retirement plans, you get the drift!

Boehner and the entire GOP just waited until I hit retirement age to do this, didn't they?

Let's invite "Common Sense" into this discussion, please. The American taxpayers have been funding over $60 BILLION a year in fraud and abuse for a decade or more. Think about this. Once you have processed this information, as a taxpayer, you should be scratching your head and asking yourself WHY we are funding this fraud and abuse of our social systems.

Until you do that you won't have a clue as to what Boehner is talking about.

Think about $60 billion being wasted on fraud. Then think about our American veterans who cannot after more than a year of applying for their earned benefits and they are still without payment for their service to our country to keep America safe.

Michelle Obama stood before the American people and told us that "her project" would be to help our veterans. So much for that.....perhaps she is far more interested in designer gowns. Who knows? What the veterans know is that they are not receiving the benefits that they should be receiving.

I don't know about the rest of you but continuing to fund three and four generations of welfare recipients is a lost cause. Welfare is a helping hand up. Not a lifestyle. So, don't complain about your taxes, liberals, because you are supporting $60 billion a year in fraud and abuse.

Just wait until "amnesty" for the illegals is passed. Start saving your money to fund the illegals when all you really intended to do was send your children to college as a personal responsibility American...but you ran out of money because you are paying for the illegals to get their education on your dime.

Give it a break already, Diane- This country has manage to drum up TRILLIONS of dollars for war- the least they could do is care for the sick, the elderly and the young. It is DISGRACEFUL the way you go on and on year after year.

Seriously, if you nutty Republicans keep it up, Im moving to China.

You reap what you sow, Nyack. You missed the point. You, as a taxpayer, pay over $60 billion in fraud and abuse and your response is....."it's okay." Glad you aren't president.

Thursday August 29, 2013, 5:09 pm
As a liberal, you appear to be okay with funding those who are breaking the law. No?

Diane as usual is clueless and the facts are completely wasted on her.

There are many times the fraud and abuse by the corporations than by ordinary people, but Boehner and other disgusting people think that's OK. Make the poor person starve, but by all means, don't take away the corporations private jets acquired by cheating the government.

If Diane ever wakes up and faces the truth she'll probably die of shock.

Of that 60 billion (actually more I believe) about 58 billion goes to the people the right supports, like McDonnell Douglas and a number of Republican run Medicare frauds like the twit governor of Florida Rick Scott who was convicted of the largest medicare fraud in history.

Too bad the French Senat was set up the way it was because the right is almost always wrong. No, I didn't misspell Senat as the built in spellcheck is saying. ;o)
