I have noticed many care2 members shy away from FB.

I'm not on facebook for MANY reasons!
Care2 is the only social network I belong to :)

As I said there are a lot of us care2 people who aren't on FB. I use twitter to share petitions and follow my Denver Broncos, but not much of that either. Care2 is my social network place.

Care2 is all i'm on, we do so much good here, no need for specific social networks.
Our friendships here are DEEP, with a common goal.

Some years ago I was with a group of people, playing one of those stupid games where you're given two options, and have to choose one. One question was, 'Would you rather be liked or respected?' (I was the only one who chose to be respected. (My argument was that there's no real friendship without respect.) and, interestingly, all these years later, I'm the only one of us not on Facebook.

I have never been on FB and never will. This would be the only place considered some type of social network but NO FB for me .I have never used twitter either but I think FB is out of hand.

TY Carrie for posting...

I can that. Got no date, hungry but not interested in what is in the kitchen. Get some likes and have a few laughs.

Not a fb fan but unfortunately i need it 4 the tons of animal welfare petitions and animal networking. There isn't any personal info on there. It's like a dummy account really. Who has time to map out one's life on these social sites anyway. Thanks Carrie

Not a FB user, although many friends and relatives are. Care2 does so much good and we meet a lot of people that have common goals.
Thanks Carrie.

I'm not a Facebook user. The privacy issues they have really trouble me and it's really not my thing. Care2 is good enough for me and in my opinion a more fun & constructive use of time. Thanks Carrie!

Not a surprise. I can't stand FB. It is a necessary evil to keep in touch with some folk though. But I prefer to not know what they had for breakfast each day.

Noted. Only Care2 for me, too. No time for Facebook, and I don't want to contribute to that mess....although every piece of mail I get is begging me to post on Facebook. Sorry--never gonna happen.

Have only heard negatives attached to FB, so saw no need to have an acct...with any of the social sites. My social life consists of C2 and friends and family. Find I have no time, or need, for anything more. Thanks.

I'm on facebook, I use it for a lot of things including sharing petitions and news and keeping in contact with people I may not because I don't phone people that often, have met a lot of nice people on there as well that are fellow activists :)

I think this is true. Most fb users are always looking for more Likes.

I have an FB account but only for 2 reasons 1) family--all my husband's family is on there. 2) animal petitions/activism. I rarely go there but when I do I go there solely to catch up on petitions, actions and to share petitions from care2. I rarely interact with the family, but sometimes they send me stuff there. Other than that, I could care less about FB.

For some reason I've never "liked" FB...

I've told this story before, but I think it is worth repeating. I opened an FB account when our son went to Iraq because it was easier for him to keep in touch with family that way. When he came home I decided to close it. It took several YEARS for me to successfully close the account! FB is like the MAFIA ~ once you're in ~ just try to get out!

Yes Carrie, i only filled in my name & email a couple of years ago but never confirmed the account, i did it so that i could reach more people with animal petitions, etc.
I STILL GET RUBBISH SPAM FROM THEM!

AniMae, if you go into your safe senders email list and delete any and everything that involves a facebook address you might stop getting the SPAM.

Thanx Carrie but i've already done that, as you said,
"FB is like the MAFIA ~ once you're in ~ just try to get out! "

Thing is i was never IN.

Significant article that all the world needs to read. The attached caution that indicates life satisfaction is depleted by fb is most essential. Using the digital world for convenience is an attribute. Using the digital world as our human connection has flaws too numerous to list. It's been mentioned here, that the goals to achieve something for the good, such as often is the case on Care2, can lift our spirits. Such kindnesses can be shared in a digital format, and expressed in type. Our basic human need to socialize is not fulfilled in a competitive fb frenzy of 'friends' who've never met, never shared real time, never connected in the 'sensory' world. I'd say, "caution" to anyone expecting to form any real friendship in such a competitive and 'none feeling' digital technology. The virtual world has less virtue than our face to face interaction.
