How, exactly, is it safe to host the Olympics in a nation which absolutely no workable evacuation routes from a nuclear facility on the verge of collapsing into another deadly radiation release?

I think this is a silly idea when they do not know the level of contamination out there Its not fair to the people who are going to participate

When this was announced, I wondered if I heard right. How can anybody know what is going to happen in Japan, especially with a nuclear facility on the verge of collapsing?? Bad choice!!!

Ummm! Does this really makes sense with the current news about Fukushima? I wonder how many Japanese will be finding another place to live.

The contamination, ongoing related illness and impact on the environment are still stongly visibe following Chernobyl 25 years later....So where is the wisdom in the decsion or has financial greed addled the senses.

Whoever rated Japan suitable for the Summer Olympics must have missed out on the SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) class for "Hazard Identification". AND - If drinking alcohol there doesn't kill you, the water might!
How bad were the other contenders that made radioactivity so attractive? Wouldn't and won't see me there!!

Visitors and athletes have to be very careful - can't drink the water, can't shower or bathe in it either. Can't eat any fish...are anything grown using the water. Best just to say don't eat anything that glows. Wonder if they'll have to bring their own water and food...

They should hold the Olympics somewhere else so our athletes don't get exposed to radiation sickness.

Roll. the dice. CLose your eyes. Hope for the best. If all goes well, then you can say "Look, we told you it was safe ..." If things go badly, blame someone else.

Money in their pockets so they can build more facilities like the one that went down. Who on the Olympic Committee thought Japan was the best place for the Olympics? How much money, gifts, trips, etc. changed hands on this disastrous vote?

Abe lied about Fukushima and the IOC ate up! And he used a member of Japan's Imperial Family to help him--a violation of article 4 of Japan's Constitution! Tokyo DOESN'T DESERVE the Olympics!!

Madrid or Istanbul should have won!!
