The next mass shooting will take place on February 12, 2014, in Spokane, Washington. It will be committed by an emotionally disturbed, 38 year-old white man who will kill seven people and wound six more at a place he used to work using a semi-automatic...

About 63% of mass shooters have mental issues...DUH! I would say that 100% have at least one mental issue or there would be no shooting. Interesting how they're trying to anticipate what really can't be anticipated/predicted because the very nature of most humans is their unpredictiblity. Of course, most of the guns used were purchased legally, a fact that the NRA really doesn't want people to dwell on. Not really impressed with any of their predictions because just when get the parameters figured out, something changes...maybe your cat will order an uzzi and ammo, then go gunning for that strange cat in your territory...

Not making fun, but it's about as likely as predicting where, what weapon, who, even race - why haven't they added in religion?? Wonder if they all used uncontaminated shampoos and lotions?? Ate canned and processed foods?? What pesticides did they use or come in contact with??

Today, I listened to a public radio program say that there have been more mass shootings during Obama's presidency than during any other presidency. I believe there will be more mass shootings and soon too. Society is becoming unraveled at the margins.

Thank you for the news. Until we address the real need for a strong mental health care system, these incidents wil continue unabated.

Thanks for sharing this article with us Carrie. The shootings are an obvious major acting out of an extremely mentally ill person and society needs to have access to mental health care, regardless of ability to afford it. There are no perfect answers but we need to try---I agree with Bryna, whole heartedly. TY again Carrie~

Good article to make people THINK.
This is not "crystal ball" stuff - this is an interesting experiment in Probability.
Would sure be eerie, tho, if the Time and Place turned out to be anywheres near correct!

DON'T GIVE UP on Gun Control!
The vicious, evil NRA can't have its own way FOREVER.
Keep on NAGGING your Legislators! Write, phone, e-mail, VOTE...
The NRA can keep winning for YEARS, but it MUST LOSE, in the end...
The Legislators should be scared of US, not of the NRA and the Gun Nuts...
Make BACKGROUND CHECKS mandatory, and

Very important BALLOT ISSUE coming up in Washington State {where Spokane is!},
I-594, on Background Checks - SIGN to get it on the Ballot, and then Vote YES!
If you want to help, contact
Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility
PO Box 21712
Seattle, WA 98111
Get Initiatives for Voters to Sign and put it on the Ballot {Washington State Voters only!}

"Oh but what about the second amendment?" The usual brigade will say with their gun toting avatars and their usual habit of going on about how good society is with guns. "Hey my blind neighbor shot and killed a burglar and the another shot one with a spear gun, ain't we so much safer with guns" mentality. The problem is that criminals can get guns too quite legally. Mass shootings are occurring for many reasons and one of he worst is the way that some News channels seem to get a full on chubby about guns, yet put the blame on lots of others factors. The shootings are actually a result of mentally ill people getting guns and if the NRA wasn't so hell bent on preventing research into gun crime there would not be the steady stream of shootings that seems part and parcel of American society these days.

If I was a resident of Spokane I would sue The Atlantic Wire. The article is like an invitation to kill on that date and at that place.

What a very weird article asking for trouble. So many people are being treated unfairly and without any respect at their workplaces, insurances, workers compensations, schools, etc.. They are being bullied, and shamed sometimes over many years. This is usually the reason when hurt people all of a sudden sap, and hurt somebody.
Maybe it is time that our society is starting to change.
COMPASSION & LOVE this is what counts in life.

GGma Sheila - The prediction was that 63% have a HISTORY of mental health issues. The other 37% of course have mental health issues, but not the history - in other words, unreported and untreated.
