Shady efforts by the meat industry to sidestep having to inform consumers about where its cattle are born, raised and slaughtered have ultimately failed, as a U.S. District Court recently struck down lunatic claims that the new requirements somehow...

These unconscionable people will stop at nothing to avoid any responsibility for the rubbish the y give us disguised as healthy food. The judges decision is one of common sense we have a right to know from where our food is sourced.

Thanks for the info, Carrie. Just wondering if this is truly finished, though. These large corps. have a history of fighting back when they don't like a judgement. And, they don't like to play by the rules. This is why we have to fund more regulators and impose larger fines for non-compliance....something that actually hurts their "bottom line" if they cheat consumers.

Please avoid beef consumption- think of all the wolves, coyotes, bison, wild horses, and prairie dogs that are poisoned, shot, and trapped just so the beef industry can run their cattle all over out public lands!

This is not food, it is meat that belonged to a living being full of life and spirit, how can you possibly eat this.

Yes we have the right to know where our meat comes from. Now we need assurances that the law will be unforced?

I am happy the court stuck it to the meat industry, but the meat industry is probably not done yet. I would like to know where all our food comes from. It should be printed on the container.

Why should it be such a secret as to where our food comes from? I know oranges list country of origin on them and it doesn't hurt them. It is about time that we the people be allowed to know what we want/need to know and not only what the government wants us to know.

Mike Johanns opposes country-of-origin meat labeling, which seems odd to me, since Nebraska produces a lot of beef. I would have thought he'd want not only country of origin, but state and general area as well--but that's just me, thinking that someone ought to be proud of what their community produces . . . I logged onto his website and asked that question, but I guess he's too busy writing bills that ban the EPA from aerial surveillance of ag operations to answer. (Apparently he has no problem with the NSA spying on the rest of us.)

And speaking of meat, I read an interesting article from AlterNet, about "meat glue." I can't find the one I saw today, but this one looks similar:'s_really_in_your_expensive_steak_you'd_be_surprised
