Does America Have Enough 'Good Guys' to Go With All of Its Guns?

"The whole country... knows the problem was there weren't enough good guys with guns," NRA honcho Wayne LaPierre said in the aftermath of the Navy Yard shooting in Washington, D.C. It's a a favorite trope of the gun advocate.

"Good guys" make mistakes too. And "bad guys" steal from good guys.

No matter how you slice it, guns don't kill people. People kill people. That being said, if a person knows that they can quite easily get a gun somewhere, and they have bad guy intentions, they are more likely to carry out that bad intention. Did that make sense? Sorry, super tired lol. Thanks Carrie.

Thank you for the news. I heard tonight that there have been well over 600,000 gun murders in this nation since the 1980's which is more than any other nation in the world. Only in America could this be true. I'm so ashamed of this country sometimes that I could just cry, and often do despite the fact that I'm a generally happy person.

After providing much statistical evidence and research, the author of this article answered his own question in the last two paragraphs of his article:

" And again we see that a correlation between more guns in the hands of noble American good guys and more violent crime.

So how many good guys with guns do we need to eliminate violent crime? Apparently fewer than we already have. Fewer citizens with guns, the data suggests, less violent crime. Which if you think about it, sort of makes sense". "

No guns only for the military and certain special branches of the police

Guns are here and they are not going away. If you somehow managed to make guns illegal tomorrow there would still be enough guns out there to keep the criminals armed for a very long time. If you made the manufacture of guns illegal we would end up like the phillipines where they got soo good at making bootleg guns some of the bootleggers went legit at making them. Gun control will not work no more than alcohol control worked in the prohibition era. If Americans want guns they are going to get them. If you want to disarm someone disarm the police state and the military drones that are killing civilians and starting illegal wars and war crimes.

I do not understand the reasoning of people with guns - to protect themselves? Here in Canada if a person uses a gun to protect themselves, and injures a person, they will be charged and go to jail.
Thanks Carrie.

Noted. Case in point: A couple nights ago, two people at a local McDonalds had a fender bender, which escalated into one person shooting the other and killing him. This is what the "gun mentality" here in the U.S. is doing. Everybody claims to be the "good guy." So, we just have "good guys" killing other "good guys" with guns. Since the NRA has taken such a drastic stance that every single person in the U.S. should be a gun owner (to gain more wealth to those heading up the gun manufacturing companies, bullet manufacturers, & those in cahoots with them)....I take it upon myself in good conscience to oppose them to the point where I am for the complete banning of guns in the US.
If I don't speak out against guns, I will feel complicit in the next tragedy that happens.

bad guys can pretend to be good guys - how you gonna know? You can't always tell.

We need people to deal with reality. If you want to defend yourself a gun is the best. You the person is the judge of what weapon is best for you and your circumstance not some politician. We have to realize that there are forces at work to terrorize the populace for political-religious reasons. Having the right to buy effective weapons is critical to survival.
If you think the terrorists are no here in America think again. These are suicide attackers so they are not interested in anything but dying and taking as many as they can with them. Remember it was armed citizens who were instrumental in rescuing hundreds in Kenya.
