I feel so sorry for the athletes and their families. You couldn't pay me a million dollars to go to the Olympics.

Of course the Olympic officials would dismiss such a threat; I mean think of the hundreds of millions of dollars at stake! What's a few lives, or the violation of gay civil rights when profits are at stake? Sigh.....

And you're right, Esther Z.

This is one of the issues that we'll be able to judge only after the games.

Lots of statements and promises, not all of them easy to believe.

Here's another one:

Officials and sponsors promised that everyone will be safe and protected from anti-gay discrimination during the Winter Olympics. That promise may now have been broken in the most extreme way.

Looks like this promise already banned to history, Russia arrested the first "demonstrator", a man who dared to held up a rainbow-colored flag during the Olympic torch relay in Voronezh, Russia.

Corporate sponsors have the most to lose right now as their global Olympic ads roll out. If we all raise a massive outcry, we'll make sure they have to speak out – or they'll risk losing face in front of the whole world.

Click here to sign the petition and ask all Olympic sponsors to stand up and speak out against Russia's anti-gay laws:

Noted with concern - Concern for all Olympic Athletes!
Islamist insurgents based in North Caucasus republics such as Dagestan are seeking their own independent state and have vowed to disrupt the Games in an effort to undermine Russia’s President Putin. I would be worried about the Caucasus!
Thank You Carrie. Now I will sign petition ewould . has in his comment.

There is no justifiable reason at all to believe a 'terrorist' attack will befall the Sochi games... But the media overkill is certainly creating more fear in the hearts of athletes and visitors than any so-called terrorist ever could.

Dear media: Always look on the bright side of life... (Even if there is more money to be made from reporting fear-mongering garbage)

It is the most high profile worldwide sporting event (the Superbowl is American, the world cup is limited teams. Ever since the 70's. But, it is not surprising that threats are being down played.
