An Arizona state House committee on Wednesday will hold a hearing on a bill that could jail undocumented immigrants if they use public restrooms or other public resources like schools or roads.

I thought Republicans were against big government? The way he wrote the bill, it seems like he wants to stop anyone who isn’t white, blond, and blue eyed, from going to the bathroom. All I can think of is that there are going to be an awful lot of stinky streets in Arizona, when the majority of Arizonans can’t use the bathroom!

Has anyone read "Catch-22," where all the airmen on the base were required to sign a loyalty oath every time they ate in the mess hall, picked up their mail, used the latrine . . . ? At least the author knew it was satire. This guy seems to think real life is a satire.

This guy is another idiot. There just is no way to fix stupid. Does he want to stop visitors from all countries from using our restrooms? Since when does HE own the restrooms? No wonder people don't want to take vacations to America. People like this freak shows how unwanted they are.

A classic republican solution - Logic says the result would be a serious amount of free-floating excrement -

Urban slogans like "curb your dog" - become "curb your driver" curb your nanny" - and on and on ad nauseum

Shouldn't all illegal aliens be arrested and deported anyway?

Not playing devil's advocate or anything, but just the way he seemed less than thrilled about the bill himself, I can't help but wonder if that was a bill one of his constituents had him put out there. Any of us can write a bill and then submit it to state representatives to have it heard in committees. Maybe this was one of those bills? I just can't think of any other reason someone would co-sponsor a bill that they felt had no chance of being voted on. Well, of course, there is the possibility that he is playing to the Tea part of his party for some gold stars towards year end most outrageous bill honors.

Every time I see a heading with words like "Republican wants to... bill..." I think I've seen the most idiotic of them all, but no, there' always a next one, even more moronic. How does dear Mr Carl Seel see this bill work in practice: will he have special Public-Bathroom agents go into the cubicle after a suspect or stand next to him in the urinal to verify that he or she has actually made use of public toilets (illegal aliens do not wash their hands after, you know) and then ask them to ID themselves, check if they have been have been ordered to self-deport and only then arrest them?

The only way this could be remotely constitutional is by asking everyone to identify him or herself after using a public bathroom. Well, it would create jobs, wouldn't it? Government jobs, that is ;-)

AND...I suppose he'd have officers standing by to JAIL anyone urinating in public?

that is racism .. I think it is totally unfair and inhumane... people should be allowed to be allowed to use a bathroom

"Shouldn't all illegal aliens be arrested and deported anyway?" Right, and let's also arrest and deport everyone who speeds on the highway or runs a stop sign. They are breaking the law. (Snark warning)

I suppose that the cumulative erosion caused by illegal immigrants is a serious concern of the local authorities of Arizona. So the next solution would be to calculate the net imbalance between the amount of matter eaten and the amount subsequently excreted by each visitor, and remove the weight difference through amputative surgery. Thus it would be vitally important to get a receipt after every trip to the lavatory while in Arizona. I might get into trouble as I suspect that will be in the next Tea Party manifesto.

Noted. Thanks, Carrie. Now these nutty baggers want a bathroom patrol?! So glad to read that the ACLU is getting involved. As an AZ citizen, I will be messaging my legislators to not pass this bill, should it come to that. The "best" I can hope for is that when the good people of AZ learn this, it will be the beginning of a snowball to get these types out of our gov't. They went too far with SB1070, and think they have a "mandate" to continue along this path. We are pushing back here in progressive So. AZ, and with stuff like this happening, I think our job will just be a tiny bit easier. Moron! I'll be a nickel that there will be something damaging his credibility soon in the media here. Fingers crossed.

While these immigrants are here where should they use the toilet? If you jail them would they be allowed to use a toilet or relieve themselves on the floor?

In 1994 I worked for the state of Arizona as an eligibility interviewer for food stamps and medicaid. We had many "training" sessions which were conducted in various places and were not just for the city I worked in. One such session was in Nogales Arizona which is on the Mexican border. I lived and worked in nearby Sierra Vista, Arizona, which is the home of Ft. Huachuca (army post). Besides active duty military there is a large military retirement community. I had a co worker who was born in Viet Nam and of East Indian and Vietnamese descent.

While returning from our car pooled training session in Nogales the car she was in was stopped by Border Patrol agents and everyone in the car had to show ID. WOW ~ besides Vietnamese/Indian, Puerto Rico was also represented! All of these women were not only American citizens ~ but state of Arizona employees! I am so happy I left that bigoted state!

Excuse me for saying so, but Mr. Seel you are being a racist, Also who will be paying for all this extra checking on people - especially if they use a public bathroom? I have heard and read some ridiculous bills that your party would like to pass, but this one made me laugh pretty hard,
Thanks for sharing Carrie.

@ Donn

"Damn right I'm a native American Frank."

Donn. However, much of the Southwestern U.S. belonged to the Native Americans of the Southwest. As a matter of fact it was just discovered recently that the earliest North American remains ever found had DNA from Siberia in Asia. So I guess you could say that “we are all immigrants!” Donn, please remember that our voyage through life is fleeting and temporal. Even the houses we now call our homes will one day be lived in and even owned by others. In this life we really own nothing at all, and take nothing with us. So why argue about people moving between continents as they always have? You sound like you want anyone with any trace of foreign blood out of the U.S. However, according to the latest DNA that would also include you!

Actually Frank, I don't sound like that at all. I just believe in the power of law and unfortunately we don't have the luxury of all being able to immigrate willy-nilly any more, or to do a lot of the things we used to be able to do before so many people began to populate the earth. I believe every nation has not only the right but the obligation to set immigration laws. If you wish to come to the US then follow the immigration laws, get in line with the rest of the world and wait your turn. No sneaking across the border and no more amnesties, we've had enough of those already. By the way, I'm native, not Native.
