We knew we could expect this - much ranting and raving from the holy rollers who think war is the mighty god of money. And for them, it has been. I would much rather see that money spent on food stamps - and jobs and education and housing and the environment and climate change and a ton of other things. We already spend more than the next nine countries combined - time for a little reason.

President do not make long term military plans, they will spend the money on something else in the military complex and probably more than even, just go secret if they have to. This man lied for war so what do we expect but more lies and disinformation. It may cut into Halliburton cost plus contracts however. It may means more high tech weapons that work some of the time like the smart bomb at Tora Bora that landed int eh middle of a US unit and was smart enough to be a dud. Or the cluster bombs that fail 40% of the time.

Dick the cowardly lion Cheney, draft dodger who can't travel outside the United States because Interpol has a warrant for war crimes against him and his other loudmouth draft dodger buddies Ted Nugent and Rush Limbaugh should just shut up and slink away

Noted. Thanks, Carrie. First, I can't even stand to look at that man. Secondly, he carries absolutely no weight on any issues whatsoever. So many people approved of him for so long, and he said some of the nastiest things while in office. We were "the little people" whose opinions didn't matter. Now, he really thinks he can get away with saying this? Cold. Cruel. I hope now that citizens will see him for the mean monster he really is, and ignore him.
What we really need is to keep the sequester intact. This new defense budget the warhawks want will eliminate the sequester for the Pentagon and increase spending. It won't eliminate the sequester on all the other important issues that should not have been cut. What was suppose to have been done was to fund the "social" programs in a separate bill that eliminated the sequestration of those specific items. It wasn't done because of the cruel and inhuman GOP in charge of the House. NOW, they want to eliminate the Pentagon spending from sequestration.....and that would be awful.

I don't need to read the story. I know it, chapter and verse, not like it is anything new. But my comeback is always the same. The US spends 10 TIMES what the rest of the world combined spends on defense. Just what the hell are we so scared of? We're the ones with all the nukes. And drones. It is the rest of the world that should be afraid of us, damn fool us. We think we are the world's policeman, moralist and all round bully. It is time that stopped. And, hell yes, I'd rather spend that money of food and health care, shelter and early childhood education. Heaven knows our kids need all the education they can get to overcome the pablum crammed down their throats by the religious reich, the Christian Taliban which cares about only unborn children and then beating the life out of everyone else in the world, including everyone in this country who isn't part of the 1%. Those right wing nuts are going to talk themselves into a revolution - for once, Bill O'Reilly might be right, he and his are under attack because people see them for what they are - greedy, self-centered, morally flawed bullies who want the world, including the rest of us under their thumb for as long as they can get away with it. Happily that time is ending. Sooner than they think. Chicken hawk Dick at his normal line of pandering fear mongering. Keep the people afraid of each other and apart, because if they ever all get together, the 1% is doomed. Just like the ancient story of the Tower of Babel, once we all speak a common language, there is no end to what we might accomplish and first on the list should be sweeping the world stage clean of people like Dick Cheney.

I really like Edwin's "Dick the cowardly lion" assessment. So eager to start wars and send our sons and daughters off to die ~ all the while hiding under his desk or in a bunker somewhere!

Way to go Dick. he's about the only one of these liberal mouths to actually support our militrayt. the rest all use us or simply mouth off to sound good.

The "Pentagon" can't be blamed as your military must follow the guidance given by the Pres and his administration. Ultimately, it is the Pres and his chosen aides that are to blame for all things good and bad. It is only the very poor "leaders" that don't accept that.

Any ripping by Dick Cheney should be taken as a compliment, especially from a man known to friends as "Vader" though in reality he is far less ethical as I bet Cheney would not only kill younglings, he would shag them and eat them too before demanding they apologize to him.

Darth Cheney and the rest of his minions hard at work establishing the New World Order on the backs of every inhabitant of this planet and hang the cost. Mammon and Mars must be honored with blood sacrifice and violence at all costs. I am no fan of Obama as the entire system which he serves is corrupt and compromised and if we are to have any form of government that is equitable and egalitarian for all people we have to change it. Of course if we could change human nature we would solve many of our problems within a generation or two.

Actually John the POTUS and the rest of the ilk on the Hill follow the dictates set down by those in real power: the Elite Few behind the financial institutions and the six mega corporations and their 220+ subsidiaries.
I have nothing against the people in the military, nor do I question their honor, courage or patriotism although many see no economic recourse other than the military to find employment. Who has created these conditions globally?
The standing military of the constitutional United States clearly mandates that the military is for the defense of the nation. Which nation has invaded the US recently? Which nations are the US military defending or are they merely fighting a dirty, secretive conflict against an unidentified enemy for the sole profit of a Select Few whose interests lie not in the welfare of the US and its constituents but in the aggregate accumulation of profit by any means?

Darth Cheney - I like that, so fitting - does not care a whit about the military or the veterans or anybody but Darth Cheney and his own bank account. If he cared, he would not have helped create a war where so many veterans were killed or altered forever - he would have wanted to make certain they got health care, education and jobs when they came home - he would not have protested against giving out food stamps or help when needed. Darth Cheney is a disgusting human being and when he dies, you will hear a quiet cheer go out across the entire country.

Size of military questioned in new budget
Former Rep. Barney Frank talks with Rachel Maddow about Secretary Hagel’s newly presented Pentagon budget and where he sees hope for smaller military spending.

"Over a decade ago, it was Dick Cheney who helped launch two of the longest wars in U.S. history. He and the Bush administration did so with bogus claims, without a credible plan for success, without even trying to pay for the enormous costs of two invasions, and without broad international support. The disastrous consequences have done lasting harm to the nation and our standing around the world – making it that much more hilarious when Cheney said Obama has undermined U.S. credibility on the world stage."

"It fell to the Obama administration to clean up the messes Bush/Cheney left behind, ending the wars, getting the nation’s finances in order, and transitioning the Defense Department to a post-war posture."

Increasing the military budget won't increase soldiers' pay, only Cheney's off-shore, tax-free bank account. An alarming (and increasing) number of soldiers depend on food stamps to feed their families. So, ironically, food stamps support the military in a more useful way than anything The Dick might suggest. So why not support our troops by cutting back on the defense budget and reversing all those food stamp cuts.

The man is a disgrace to our nation, that is what that pompous Halliburton asss is, I.M.O. Wall Street military contracts is all he is concerned about. May he spend eternity going from one religions hell to another.. He should be behind bars, with the other biggest disgrace to our nation G.W. Bush, instead of roaming free to spread his hawkish corporate B.S. in favor of wars and no bid contracts while people go hungry in this nation !!!! So much blood on his and Dubya's hands that in any other nation they'd both be thought as murderous fascist with mindsets to equal that of Hitlers when it comes to their mental sickness and evil without limits..... and would have already been tried and convicted of wars crimes and general crimes against humanity......IMO

Only a Dick would think that food stamps wasn't as much a protection of our citizens as the Military, many o whom have family's that NEED food stamps. Can you believe that Liz Cheney actually thought that being the Spawn of Satan would help her get elected in a state she doesn't even live it? Talk about chutzpah. The Dick should be in prison along with the Dumbest president we've ever had, the moron that handed over the reins of our country to Dick Cheney almost immediately.

Well one can give Cheney credit for one thing proving the existence of the Disciples of the anti-Christ. Other than that the complete waste of human skin and oxygen does nothing but lie and lie and lie. Cheney the great flatulent asshole so conveniently and intentionally fails to mention that that just in 2013 $100 Million in SNAP food benefits were spent by Military families Just at military base grocery stores, there is no way to begin to calculate the amount of SNAP dollars Military personnel spent off base. And giant bloviating corporate whore fails to mention that just over 900,000 American Military Veterans receive SNAP. And was not this self-same douche in the DOD from I believe 1992-1997 fought to get the DOD budget cut by $50 Billion over 5 years and cut the number of troops by 277,000 unnecessary reserve troops. Cheney opens his mouth and nothing other than lies ever comes out.

The bigger question is why have so many Americans been reduced to food stamp level...what happened to their jobs and their private healthcare?

Obama has taken our country down a dismal road. I agree with Dick Cheney...cutting military spending will render Americans as sitting ducks as other countries advance their military capabilities.

Those are all rhetorical no need to be answered. Revolting and perverse.
