Noted with disgust that TEPCO should now be making such a huge amount of money, after it's lack of maintaining these nuclear plants, and not having enough properly trained people to work on them, and causing nuclear waste to enter the ocean that may eventually affect North America. So far the stations set up to keep track, have reported that the figures are still small in the effects it would have on populations in Western Canada and Western USA.
Thanks Carrie.

Noted. Thanks, Carrie. I am as disgusted as Elizabeth M.(above). And, will add that this money should be used for health care for the people who were affected by the radiation. The citizens of Japan should be very angry.

Disgusting! They should be paying money to everybody affected by the radiation, and all the people who had to leave their homes.

People must realize TEPCO while obscene does not increase the possible danger to people in other countries including our own. I do not feel that there is a threat to us from this far away source of possible contamination.

There are much bigger threats right here in the US. Nuke power plants with moving plumes of radiation under the reactors. Cold war bomb plants built on earth quake faults lines which have been a severe threat to our population since the late 1940's.

I know there are many Care 2 members who like to be alarmist. I do not know why these people like to cause fear of some remote threat to us.

Let's finally be realistic that we live under severe threat right here and we have done so for well over half a century, a threat far more likely to kill us...right here in the United States. We may be able to do something about the real threat before it is too late or we may become nonfunctional and petrified of an unlikely threat so far away. What shall we choose?

This sounds very familiar: a corporation, despite doing people and environment irreparable harm, gets taxpayers money to undo some of the damage (but left to do as it pleases), get tax cuts and the price of its product is raised, leading it to an obscene amount of profit which it tries to keep quiet.
Baffling, unacceptable... perhaps, but certainly not unusual. Welcome to the reality of corporate domination.

Thank you for this article. TEPCO should be forced to update it's reactors & make them safer!
