No Spring Chickens, Hens Help Heal Elderly

Hold onto your eggs, chickens might be the newest trend in therapy animals. Already deployed to help with autism, a flock of hens now provides companionship for the elderly as well as a hobby for people whose lives are otherwise winding down.

Bantam hens are beautiful, & smart too... at least as smart as a cat.

How cool, you can have a pet that provides nutrition too.

Good idea - animals are so healing - but I do wonder about house-training them!

Substitute any animal that needs looking after for chicken, cat or dog and it will work. It gives back a both purpose in life and companionship.

Good idea. Chickens are smarter than most people believe.

Noted with thanks Carrie. Nope this kind of 'hensioner' is not for me - but it is a novel idea. Guess it would be to let the elderly know that they are not 'spring chickens' anymore. I realize animals are healing, but they would not allow chicken coops in any town in Alberta - they may get stuck in the tar sands LOL.
Actually I know that dogs, cats and birds make good companions, and now in my floundering age I would love to have a horse, but I couldn't afford it's oats. Guess I will just visit a farm with a variety of animals. I do love my little dog so much and he is very entertaining.
