At least two 89-year-old veterans went to great lengths to attend the events honoring the 70th anniversary of the Allied Forces' invasion of Normandy, commonly known as "D-Day," The Guardian reported.

Thank you and noted Carrie it is such a great article. What a testimony to the type a young men of D Day who made that journey across the sea. Good one they have not changed with the years.

If you survived D-Day and are into your late eighties or nineties and feel that “At my age life tends to get a wee bit boring,”, I can well imagine these men's enthusiasm to attend the 70th anniversary of this important event. Even if you have to go AWOL from your nursing home for a while ;-) I hope they enjoyed the day, they deserve to.

I just loved the story of the guy who went AWOL from his nursing home to attend the D Day commemorations. It really made my day yesterday when I heard it. It was a great shame that no one took his desire to attend seriously enough to pull a few strings to get him there, and he had to take it into his own hands. But nevertheless, shades of The Great Escape there somewhere ;-)

Heard Mr. Jordan interviewed. He was a bit bemused by the attention over his escape, and thought he might try it again next year. A friend went because her father set up one of the first medical stations beyond Utah beach. Can't wait to see her photos.
