Maher opined that Republicans dislike Tyson because "you're a scientist and you're a black one" and it upsets them that Tyson is demonstrably "smarter than they are, so it's terrible, it's like Obama: a black person taking a white person's job because...

True. But he could have stopped at Republicans hate.

Or

Republicans hate you being smarter than them.

But especially if you don't look like them. This isn't limited to African Americans. It applies to all groups, genders, ages, etc.

NOTE: Not all Republicans are hateful. But the loudest ones tend to be. But that is true across the political spectrum.

Ashley is correct - the basis of all Right Wing policies is hatred (mixed with greed and envy and the rest of the deadly sins of course!).

Not all, but I submit almost all the leadership AND the virtual leaders (Faux Noise) are either racist, hateful, cynically manipulative or all three.

It's based in fear, which then evolves into hatred.

With greed as the father.
Fear is the mother.

No surprise either way. The Repulsivicans lost me a long time ago. This November, I just might vote straight-ticket Democrat.

Maher may have a point there. Being outsmarted by someone is something the Republicans are not very happy with, but have gotten desensitized by over the years as it happens rather often, But a black man being smarter than Republicans is just too much for them to take. That really hurts.

I thought that this was obvious and that Neil was probably smart enough to have figured it out without Maher telling him. And maybe he has and is just too nice and/or tactful to admit it publicly. I see it all the time. I have a black friend who is bright, has a college degree, and is a great worker, who has applied for promotion and is well qualified but her supervisor won't release her from her entry level job. I think I may resent it more than she does.

Noted. Thanks for posting, Carrie. That was a wonderful interview! In my opinion, the wealthiest have co-opted the Republican party along with selected media to do their greedy bidding. They use hate-speak and then feed the anger. They have perfected their message so much that they now just sit back and watch people vote against their own economic interests, then blame ALL minorities. Seems like Roger Ailes just wakes up each day and rolls a dice to see which group Fux Noise will target that day.
There was actually a book recently explaining how Ailes does this each day with the anchors & reporters of that network. They have "key phrases" which they all repeat incessantly during the daily broadcasts.

Tyson is not only smart, and black, he put evidence based concepts on TV that are threatening to the Regugs, and their Right wing Bible toting literalists .
