Organic foods provide a refuge from the toxins, synthetics, and chemically processed ingredients that masquerade as food in the conventional food supply. Through corruption at the USDA some questionable 'nutrient' ingredients have found their way into...

Nancy thank you for posting this. I am a huge advocate to breastfeeding children. My son is 14 months right now and I am still nursing him! I know and understand that it's the best thing for him.

The Chinese "invented" cows that produce "mothers" milk. Maybe less melamine is needed then. Petition signed a few days ago. H.

I totally oppose this action. The bonding that goes on between a baby and its mother is one of the most important nuring a baby can get.

Very creepy. I have an image of the last clueless human on Earth throwing wads of money in the air, yelling, "Look how rich I am!"

Thank you Nancy...This is important...I went all over and clicked on everything, still didn't see a petition. HELP please. I totally wish people could eat correctly and breast feed their children for what their child may need, but today, with all of the BIG FARMS and antibotics that are being put into our FOOD, it isn't like when I was a baby...No wonder there are so many problems today with Children!

When a mother can't breastfeed, for whatever reason, she needs to be confident in what she gives her child. Any corruption of the food supply is a problem; baby food is especially vulnerable. This is a major issue that needs to be cleaned up immediately.

I have signed the petition because I believe organic should mean organic and I do not believe that Martek Biosciences Corporation are motivated in that direction.
However, I would say, not all women CAN breast feed, and if a "formula" could be developed that was much closer to human milk than is current, it would be no bad thing, as long as it was used in need not out of habit. Make it as natural as possible, and suitably probiotic to help in gastro-intestinal and immune development. Not perfect, but then life seldom is.

Is this about the genetic engineering of cows to produce milk that is genetically comparable to human breast milk? Or is this about manufacturing milk substitutes in a lab?

Duplicating human milk with an animal would be fine if used for when normal breast feeding isn't available: mother doesn't have enough, or pumping and bottling before travel among prudes is insufficient, or similar situations. Otherwise I'm opposed to excessive use of 'formula' that gives the baby no immune system boosts.

Well Fred Krohn there has a good point and I agree. For cases with sick mothers, mothers who have some disease that can be transmitted via breast milk, or for, say, couples who do not include a nursing mother-ie, adoptions, whatever the case-using an animal to make human-compatible milk with our own immune boosters naturally included would be a good thing. I need to know what this petition is concerning specifically before I up and sign it, and it's very full of rhetoric and fear-inducing terms, but I don't see a specific thing that they are covering with it.

OH, Nancy! Look at those baby blue eyes!!
Yes, this story is sad but true. I get the "Cornucopia" News letter and saw this subject about to be voted on by the National Organics Standards Board. And I read about fifty or so entries of people asking and begging and reminding them of just what "organic" means, and it just seems useless. These people on the NOSB know damned good and well what "organic" means, and yet they were "voting" on putting this crap in organic milk!!
So what I did was I wrote a letter that hopefully at least caught their attention.
It went something like this:
"Dear NOSB, you know that putting this synthetic crap in organic milk is wrong, and there is letter after letter written here telling you to PLEASE do not approve it. The fact that you're having a vote on it AT ALL means you plan to implement it regardless! So why don't we just get to the point. How about if you just go ahead and take the Lobbyist's bribe money, but give US our vote to leave organic ....organic! That way, you get to keep the money,AND you get the approval of thousands of people who expect you to do your job right ANYWAY!! Sounds like a win/win situation to me!"
I honest to God wrote it just that bluntly.
Because things are getting so out of control that it CALLS for being blunt and forget about saying "pretty please" anymore!

But what is this actually protesting?! Is it protesting putting chemicals in baby formula and calling it "organic" or is it protesting human imitation milk made by cows? I would gladly sign the first, but the second one, as far as I am concerned, is an important step to the health of babies because it would allow them to have genuine milk that is close to a human's without having to resort to formula!
