Healthy crops come from healthy soil. Soil fertility depends on an incredible diversity and abundance of soil critters, from the microscopic to the flying and creepy crawly. Together these critters cycle nitrogen (N) and many other essential minerals...

It would seem to be a "no brainer" that anything that is less toxic is better of the earth.
Thanks.

Base your soil 'amendment' on 'natural' means with only a small amount of chemical fertilisers based on measured soil deficiencies, and the combined soil enhancement is sustainable. Great post.

Over and over again, "organic" is proven better and safer than "conventional", yet our crooked politicians continue to be the slaves of "corporate farms"!

GodBless the organic farmers. I see this as monsanto, GE trying to pit these two against each other while the true criminals (& the ones we need to watch) are them.

The solution to ALL soils problems is more organics. Added organics to the soil increase moisture retention, fertility and bio activity. Adding organics allows the worms to turn the soil and increase it's fertility by doing so. Worms allow for the soils to be loosened, oxygen penetration and deeper water absorption. Weeds are not weeds. This is a myth put out by the chemical companies to get you to buy more poisons. Weeds are transitional plants. When the soil is of poor quality, only a few plants can live in it. The plants we want can not. Weeds grow in these bad soils. They increase it's fertility. Then other transitional plants can grow. Eventually the food plants we want will grow. Or we can do crop rotating and keep the soils healthy in the first place.
