5 years. That's how often the farm bill comes around. 5 minutes. That's all it takes to speak out for reform. A lifetime. That's the kind of impact you'll have.

Signed and placed about the fourth call today to my Senators. I just know they are so happy to keep hearing from me. You'd think it was their job....well maybe not.

DO NOT SIGN TO PASS THIS! FEDERAL PROTECTION OF ENDANGERED SPECIES WITHIN A STATE WILL END FOR 5 YEARS! THIS IS A SPECIAL INTEREST RIDER INTRODUCED TODAY! CALL YOUR SENATORS AND TELL THEM NOT TO PASS THIS WRETCHEFD BILL WITH THE AMENDMENT ATTACHED!!!!!!!!

Apparently, Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) introduced an amendment (SA2315) today to the Farm Bill (S.3240) that would eliminate federal protections for endangered species that exist entirely within the borders of a single state. If this passes, many endangered species will lose their protections for the next 5 years (the Farm Bill proposes legislation that expires in 2017). This could be voted on in the Senate as soon as Thursday. Hereís the actual amendment language (Found via the Congressional record).

Text: SA 2315. Mr. LEE submitted an amendment intended to be proposed by him to the bill S. 3240, to reauthorize agricultural programs through 2017, and for other purposes; which was ordered to lie on the table; as follows: At the appropriate place, insert the following: SEC. __XX. TREATMENT OF INTRASTATE SPECIES. (a) Definition of Intrastate Species.--In this Act, the term ``intrastate species'' means any species of plant or fish or wildlife (as those terms are defined in section 3 of the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (16 U.S.C. 1532)) that is found entirely within the borders of a single State. (b) Treatment.--An intrastate species shall not be-- (1) considered to be in interstate commerce; and (2) subject to regulation under-- (A) the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (16 U.S.C. 1531 et seq.); or (B) any other provision of law under which regulatory authority is based on the power of Congress to regulate interstate commerce as enumerated in article I, section 8, clause 3 of the Constitution.

DO NOT SPPORT THIS BILL - NOW SEN. BARASSO OF WYOMING (A TOTAL JERK) HAS ADDED AN AMENDMENT THAT GUTS THE CLEAN AIR ACT! TERRILE BILL! SUPPORTING THIS BILL IS IRRESPONSIBLEl!

PLEASE READ AND DO NOT SPPORT THIS BILL UNTIL THE ADDED AMENDMENTS ARE REMOVED! TELL YOUR SENATORS NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the most damaging attacks on clean water and health is an amendment by Senator Barrasso to block the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers from better protecting small streams and wetlands as well as the rivers, lakes, streams and bays they flow into. These are sources of drinking water for 117 million Americans.

Other amendments would exclude streams, lakes and rivers that have been protected by the Clean Water Act since the 19th century, effectively repealing the law (by Senator Paul); undo limits of the discharge of manure, fertilizer and sewage into Floridaís waters, responsible for toxic algae (by Senator Rubio); and exempt pesticides from the Clean Water Act (by Senators Hagan, Crapo and Johanns).

Please urge your senators to reject any amendment that threatens to destroy the nationís most important safeguard for clean water and public health. Tell them that people want and deserve better for the health of their families and safety of their communities.

Noted, tweeted, signed, tweeted, shared and commented. This is important; we all should have five minutes for this petition, and who knows, this might be important enough that it will pass because the Republicans will allow it to come to a vote.
