Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alekhina and Ekaterina Samutsevich were arrested in March 2012 and charged with "hooliganism". Russian prosecutors are seeking three years prison for the musicians.

Signed, sent & noted. Thank you, Nancy. I've also signed other petitions at various sites this week regarding this. This is about young women in Russia "singing" truth to power and we should all support them.

"Hooliganism" was the charge the Soviets used to use against peaceful protests like this one. Signed, thank you, Nancy!

Darya, I see you live in the Russian Federation, perhaps you know more than we do. Can you explain? Or leave a link to an article for what you speak on. Is this not a harsh sentence for what they did, even if they did not do it in a way that might please you?

Yes, Darya, please tell us what we don't know. Are they serial killers, terrorists, chilld molestors?

All that I have read indicates I wouldn't like their music or clothing, (i think I'm too old!). But hey, they must have fans or they wouldn't fill a concrt hall. This seems a great example of non-violent protest, the Russions should realize this is better publicity than jailing singers.

ANOTHER PETITION:

3 members of the Russian feminist, girl punk band, “Pussy Riot” are being held in detention until 2013 and may face 7 years in prison for performing a song called "Mother of God, Cast Putin Out!" in Christ the Savior Cathedral on Feb. 21. This is an attempt to frighten the youth of Russia into silence by making an example of the band. It is an attack on free music, free speech, free expression and democratic rights. Amnesty International are campaigning for their release.

Very Sorry to see this...

Russian Punk Band Is Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison for Anti-Putin Stunt

A Moscow judge delivered a two-year prison sentence on Friday against three members of a punk band who staged a protest against Vladimir V. Putin in an Orthodox cathedral last February and whose jailing and trial on hooliganism charges have generated worldwide criticism of constraints on political speech in Russia.

Yes, this is not good news, for they had not destroyed any property but sang their opinion. Guess that Country, is going backwards along with ours. A shame. That will send out clear signal to the youth, that the old days are back.
I hope the Gulags don't start appearing again, it's a slippery slope when things like this start.

Wow, Putin must be very insecure to feel threatened by three female singers who only did a protest song. Signed.
