LBGT people live in constant fear in Africa. This is one thing I hope is changed soon. They are in constant danger of bodily harm from virtually everyone.

Done before. Letters to the their Permanent Mission at The UN's and UN's different offices related to Education, human rights etc... could be helpful. I couldn't find any info related to this theme at the UN. How could they help if we don't ask? - Some of the intergovernment organizations having received a standing invitation to participate as observers in the sessions and the work of the general assembly and maintaining a permanent office to the UN's office at Geneva are: The Delegation of the Council of Europe to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, The Delegation of the EU to the UN's and other international organizarions in Geneva, The Commonwealth Permanent Delegation to the UN's office and other international org's in Geneva, African Union, Permanent Delegation of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States to The UN's office and other international org's in Geneva etc... There is also the Human Rights Council, Unesco office in Abuja, Nigeria & Unesco Liaison offices in Abuja, NY and The Unesco Liaison office with the African Union and with the Economic Commission for Africa. If anyone is interested in sending a compassionate personal petition to support this cause, I can send you the addresses. Thank You Nancy! Noted

Please see my Share: American Evangelicals Deluge Africa With Gay Death Bills.
==================================
This Nigerian Jail the Gays Bill is NO SURPRISE after the Kill the Gays Bill pending in the Ugandan Parliament.
There are also SIMILAR BILLS BEING INTRODUCED in other African countries such as Kenya, Zambia and others.

It is IMPORTANT TO NOTE, that ALL these bills ORIGINATED with American - AMERICAN! - fundamentalist Evangelical "Christians". Yes, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE HOMOPHOBIC GENOCIDAL BILLS. Our AMERICAN exports!
Research now being done into African history before the coming of European Colonialists and Missionaries, does NOT turn up homophobia in Native African traditions - not even among African Muslims before the coming of European colonialists! This research is still going on...

These homophobic Genocidal bills, originate from the group known as The Family or the "C" street group, headquartered in Washington D.C. This group also sponsors a "National Prayer Breakfast" to which the President and members of Congress are invited!
People like Pastor Scott Lively, and others, have TRAVELED for this purpose to African countries where they have CONTACTS, or make contacts, thru Christian missionary churches there.
They tell the Africans that this IS NECESSARY for Christians, to fight "the Gay menace".
They GIVE HUGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY to aspiring African politicians who will promote this agenda! thus giving these politicians HUGE ADVANTAGES in poor countries with new and shaky Democracies...
As American Churches, this money given is of course all TAX-FREE... the American Churches can raise it any way they want to!
Aspiring, and unscrupulous, African Politicians quickly see where the money is, and their POWER...
Politicians such as David Barati, in Uganda, whose"weird" {she says} interview with Rachel Maddow is on youtube.

IMPORTANT TO TELL PEOPLE THIS IS ENTIRELY, AND I MEAN ENTIRELY, THE AMERICAN RELIGIOUS RIGHT'S DOING. Since they are LOSING here, they are going to the "fringes" where they CAN win - then "flushed with Victory" they say they intend to BRING THE FIGHT BACK TO THE US AGAIN. THAT is their strategy.

At any moment, Nigeria's parliament could pass one of the harshest anti-gay laws the world has ever seen.

10 years in prison for living with someone of the same sex
10 years in prison for supporting the idea of a pride march
14 years in prison for trying to have a wedding

All Out is working closely with the following partner organisations in Nigeria:
Changing Attitude Nigeria, Improved Youth Health Initiative, Initiative for Advancement of Humanity, International Center for Advocacy on Right to Health, Sexual Minorities Against AIDS in Nigeria, The Initiative for Equal Rights, The Initiative for Improved Male Health, Nigerian LGBTIs in the Diaspora Against Anti-Same Sex Laws.
=================================================
Remember that, WITHOUT A SINGLE EXCEPTION -
ALL, yes, *ALL*, EVERY SINGLE ONE of these Anti-Gay Bills introduced in African countries:
in NIGERIA, in UGANDA, in KENYA, in ZAMBIA, and in others...
EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM,
ORIGINATES WITH AMERICANS. AMERICAN FAR-RIGHT EVANGELICAL "CHRISTIANS".
Look up the FACTS. You will find this to be TRUE.

There is NO TRADITION AMONG AFRICAN NATIVE PEOPLE, of Homophobia. Some of the powerful Rulers of African Kingdoms, were what we would call "Gay" or Bisexual. Some of these Rulers were Women.
There would be NO HOMOPHOBIA IN AFRICA, as far as one can tell, if it weren't for CHRISTIANS.

And, these Bills originate with AMERICAN CHRISTIANS - who use their MONEY, and their contacts with Africans thru Christian Churches in Africa of the same Denominations, to introduce, and then to PROMOTE these execrable Bills.
These Bills, fit the definition of GENOCIDE. {Look up current definitions of GENOCIDE.}
Trying to wipe out a CULTURAL GROUP, fits the current definition of GENOCIDE.

I'm treading on thin ice, here, but, I can't help wondering how far back on the evolutionary scale, is this country? AND, I would ask the same question, to the ultra-conservative group and Tea Party Republicans.
Some may not like progress, when it doesn't fit with their perception of religious beliefs, but, believe it or not, this is 2012.
You can't be backwards, whether you like it or not. It just doesn't work, and you can't force people to believe what you want them to believe.
What is the world is wrong with 'live and let live'?
What are people afraid of?

@Charlene Rush the Ugandans are afraid of AIDS and quite desperate. Maybe the HIV prevalence numbers bear out this fear.

Research is being done by Ugandans themselves, especially Gay Ugandans, on their REAL History before the Missionaries and Colonialists came and wrote THEIR {slanted!} versions of African History.
According to research I've seen so far, they say there was NOT Homophobia or persecution of Gays, in Pagan - and even in Muslim! - parts of Africa.
{Sure there was slavery and persecution of "witches" and it wasn't all sunny and "noble savages" - but, Africans weren't necessarily as "backwards" as European history has it, they were for example skilled metalworkers, and some were organized into powerful kingdoms.}
Homophobia was introduced into sub-Saharan Africa by Christian missionaries.
The PRESENT virulent strain, is the result of INTENSE efforts by American "Christian" Evangelicals, to CORRUPT African politicians with HUGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY AND SUPPORT. These politicians learn fast, that their road to power lies with playing ball with the Americans and their Big Money.

Ugandans themselves, the majority of them, according to the newspaper Seattle Gay News, seem indifferent to Gays - but, as everywhere, THUGS can be found who will with encouragement, beat up and even murder Gays; and that is what has been happening. In the other African countries too. Corrupt politicians and violent thugs - and this is a track to GENOCIDE.
What is true of Uganda, is as far as I know ALSO the case with Nigeria, Zambia, Kenya, and other countries where SIMILAR ANTI-GAY BILLS are being introduced RIGHT NOW.
And, duh, this is NOT A CO-INCIDENCE.
Again, this is a concerted effort BY AMERICANS with an anti-Gay agenda that is not doing well in THIS country; so the American "Christians" have to EXPORT it...

As an out Lesbian I try hard not to take forget how fortunate I am despite some of the struggles we may face in the U.S.The thought of being put in prison for being in love with someone of the same sex is absolutely horrific.Again,Educate,become involved,tell everyone about this atrocity.This is wrong,plain and simple.

When will the ignorant wake up and realize that no LOVE is ever wrong (and I am referring to love, not sex, perversion, child-molestation, etc.). Love is always a beautiful and positive force.
Any "Christian" Evangelical who espouses hate and foments punishment, torture, death is not a "Christian" at all--just an evil ba****d who needs to drink a tall glass of "Jim Jones koolaid!"
